I have a 4.7L Reg. Cab. The only thing I've added so far is a flowmaster exhaust with the tips dropped in front of the real axle. I got 3.92 gears. I ran the 1/4 in 14.4@90 mph. Try to tell me that a 5.2 with the same mods will beat that.

No arguments on that. But that means you are getting roughly 300 hp out of that 4.7L. Putting a flowmaster on does not give you 65HP! These engines are hopelessly underrated! Gets two big thumbs up from me!!

I've seen it done with both a 5.2 and a 5.9L R/T. Remember, no two engines are alike on performance.

I have always said that the 4.7 was a better buy than the R/T and I have always said that I think the 4.7 would bet a stock 5.9 or at lest stay close to it.Well ck out the post on the web site www.moparchat.com [Dakota posts] look at post..Feeling oh so Foolish!!!!!!]

Uhhhh...Bob. That's one post from one person. One incident of a 5.9L person loosing to a 4.7L isn't proving that the 4.7L is faster. But...the guy did loose...it happens. Hell, I had lost to a S/C'd Ford Ranger a while back...beat him the next time though.

YES IT WAS ONLY ONE TRUCK,YES HE DID LOSE,please, if I my say this once again...I said that IN MY OPINION A 4.7 WOULD BET OR STAY WITH A STOCK R/T ALL THE WAY TO THE END...and I stand by that opinion.It is pretty dam impressive of that little 287 cu in. engine to haul that big ass truck down the road that quick.Put that in your pipe and smoke it.Tell us all when you get bet by a little old lady in grandpa's stock 4.7 Dakota.

You got me on the rocket ship thing. I'm a little lost on this one. Of course that don't mean much since I have a bad case of C.R.S.(Can't Remember S**t).
Anyway, my bonus check just came in and I placed an order for a Mopar PCM. I'll blow the rest of it over the next couple of weeks for parts to try to keep up with those new fangled 4.6.... er.... 4.7s. ;-)
Rule#1-Too much horsepower is just enough.

I have a 2001 4.7 dakota quadcab. I baught the 4.7 for a reason, please allow me to give just a few.. 1. Kenne Bell supercharger 2.Jba Headers 3.Venom Nitrous 4.Precision Ind. custom torque converter 3200 stall 5. Detroit locker with 410 gears in rearend 6. Flow Master exhaust from headers to the rear. 7. Hotchkis performance suspension 8. custom built E.C.M (computer). 9. Custom built module to trick speed contol. 10. And a few other bolt on's.. My slt dakota quadcab that I paid 22,000. for now runs low 12s after about 8,000. dollers in a few upgrades.

Shane some questions if you don't mind,and I'm not trying to be a smart ass.How many race miles have you put on your engine?Do you use your truck more for dragging or is it more for ever day transportation?It sounds to me that money for you, is not a issue.What do you think will be the longevity of your 4.7 or is that not a issue?I'm impressed with your times,Very Good for 2.87 cu ins engine with over 4000 lbs of truck.

I don't know the origins of the "hoot" term but it is used to describe a person that has a good time - fun to be around. Now that you are aware that I wasn't calling you bad names, like your wife does, please excuse me while I go blow the doors off of a few 4.7s and 4.6s. Did I mention that my other ride is '98 Trans Am (and it ain't stock either).
There is 7 cars at my house at my house and my Dakota is the slowest. My 2 sons are car nuts too.

With similar equipment to yours, my oldest son's '95 'stang was running mid 13s. After the blower, he got low 12s. It is now a donor car for a Cobra kit car we are building. It is killing me to take that beautiful black car apart even knowing what it is becoming.

50..There is no end to what a guy can do to a 5.0,but money is a issue for me.My son has a 95 Mustang GT, but his is stock,he takes mine out and beats the tar out of it,I have not been driving it.

Bob..I dont take your question as rude in any way shape or form..My truck is only used for the drags and a few car shows. Im self employed so at this time money is not a object..Not to sound rude. When I opened my own buisnes I had to give up a 11sec mustang also my bass boat. Not to mention I had no salery for 2 years and almost went broke.. Now things are good so money for the truck is no object and if the motor goes we will cross that bridge at that time.. Shane
