Message: I just read in C&D the Viper wheels are
mounted on Dakota hubs. The new Viper
wheels would make perfect street-dak
wheels. Anybody ever seen a dak with Viper
wheels?

Message: This comes up every-so-often. Don't count on picking up a set of ACR wheels anytime soon. Those are very pricey. Around 850 a piece at tirerack. 1300 at the dealer. You can get older used sets for ~2000 total. Well, ff your heart is really set on picking up some new wheels.. Check Viper groups online, people are always selling theirs on there. You can even find four fronts since it's pretty common among those bastards *cough* Vi[er owners to run all fronts.
Good luck!

Message: i know a guy who is running a 10" wide rim with a 275/40/18 up front, and a 13" wide rim with a 335/35/18 out back. (sound familiar?)
i dont know if he is using the same backspacing as the viper, but for the price of viper wheels, you could get something custom for cheaper.

Message: Eric, that's the problem I ran into when I researched it. I found that for the price, I can buy some much nicer wheels. However, if they ever came up for a really good deal I probably would not pass it up :)

Message: Kota, did the guy relocate his leaf springs or did he just switch to a 4-link setup?
I have also looked into puttin vipers on, the 2003's look like the best option because the rears are 19's and michelin makes a tire that is just about the right diameter for a dakota. so you wont have to mess with speedo changes and all that.

Message: The guy running the 18x13's on the rear is not using viper rims. They are aftermarket rims ment for a viper but are custom and come in different backspacing depending on what the buyer wants. They don't look anything like viper rims but they do look good. The problem is that all the tires to fit those 13" rims are 26" tall and look kind of small on a Dakota (stock R/T height 28", stock handling group height 29"). The 2003 viper rims look pretty sweet in my book though and if you go with 18x10's there are actuall some good 28" tall tires for a 18x10 rim (like a 295/45/18 Eagle F1 for $185 each.)

Message: Hersbird, I thought all the daks tires were 28"? hmmm? have to go look at the tire and wheel calc I use. yeah i know what you mean about the 26" tall viper setup, thats why i wanna get the new ones for 03 they are runnin 19's now with a tire that comes out to 27.6" i think, which is close enough for me.

Message: Well according to the spec sheets on tirerack the goodyear eagle LS in 255/65/16 is 29.1 inches tall, and the Eagle RSA in 255/55/17 is 28 inches even. Funny thing about the 2003s is that where the 16" wheels are standard on so many models of Dakota you have to specifiy that you want the bigger tires as well. On the 2003 2wd unless you go with the "plus" group or a SXT you get 245/70/16's, (which is actually 29.5 inches tall.)

Message: Hersbird, its seems that you caught me. I was not really aware of all the available sizes that dodge is doin now. I remember with my first dak ALL (this I AM sure about) the tires available were 28", but that was in late '99. So I just assumed that was still the case. I guess it doesnt matter cause im gonna get some rt's as soon as i get the truck, then im gonna get them painted or powdercoated, and run the nitto 450's 275/50's all the way around.

Message: chris, you will have to buy a conversion kit to make the viper rotors fit. the kit costs about $650 for the front and rear, and you can pick up used viper parts for around $600. if you want to use the stock RT wheels, you need about a 1/2" spacer so the wheels will not hit the rotor.
