 Subject: 3.92 gears w/ 2003 Dakota not avail.?

I was looking at their site today and I can not make the exact same truck as mine with the 3.92, however, the 3.21s are available. Is this right. It would suck if they got rid of the 3.92s.

There's no way they will put together a towing package for the 2003 without a 3.92 rear. That's what allows them to claim all the "work truck" ability of the Dakota. I think that's the same thing that happened ealier this year when there was no R/T available from the site, as well.....

maybe only in the SLT's, but I just order a sport plus with everything, including the 3.92 rear, its gonna be here on Nov 15th or so

Yeah, I built it online exactly like mine, so maybe it is the SLTs. That would be dumb though.

I have had my 2003 for 3 weeks now. I have a CC sport with 4.7 5 speed, 3.92 antispin, trailer tow, heavy duty service and bucket seats. The only way I could keep the 3.92 was if I kept the stock rims and tires, any other rim tire combo I could not get them.

I order a 2003 2wd 4.7 RC 5 speed with the following
Sport Plus Group
Power Overhead convenience Group
Heavy Duty service group
3.92 LS
4 wheel disc with 4 wheel anti-lock (there is a 4 whl disc with only rear abs for $500 less)
rear sliding windows
leather wrapped steering wheel
security group
bucket seats
plus with a little finance fiddling and a sweet-arse dealer im gettin about 3K back cash for mods
first mods
full Hotchkis with shocks
caltracs bars
doin my own custom exhaust idea
HO cams and intake
72mm throtle body
and then move on to chasin down Duner, Am gonna try to have turbo on within six months. Just gonna buy the turbo stuff i can get hook-ups on right now
I got a few other OG ideas as well. Some for now, some for later. I will have lots of pics
oh yeah Duner if you see this i would like to talk to you or maybe get a little email action goin, I've got a little proposition for you, I need manifolds and you cant use a little t04b forever, j/k but seriously we might be able to help each other out

So you didn't get the tire and handling package (which for 2003 doesn't really add much)? I did see something that looked like the 3.55 gears are manditory with the tire and handling group, that's just strange. It may be that the 3.55's are standard with the tire and handling (up from the 3.21's) and that you can still add the 3.92's if you want. They really should just put whatever ratio the customer wants, that's those damn democrats for ya...

the tire and handling package comes with the sports plus group, so yeah i got it. In all reality though its just the wheels, the reg. cabs dont get rear sway bars anymore.

3.92's are still available in Dakotas , I just got a set from one of my friends who just went to 4.56's.
His is an '03 Sport reg cab 4.7/5-speed , he's had it for 3 weeks and already put in 4.56's , Cal Tracks , Clear Image headers with 3" Flowmaster single exhaust and a Z tube with a big K&N cone.

Copmletely forget first gear. Its bad enouph with the 3.92s.

It would make starting in second pretty easy for street use. Then maybe use first only when racing or towing.
What company did he decide to go with? From what I've heard about Richmond, I will not touch theirs.

According to the "sales consultant product guide" 3.92s are available on all dakotas.
What is really interesting, is that it shows the soft tonneau cover as STANDARD on the R/T for 2003. hmmmm.......

The 4.56's are nice , the OD and 29" tires help tame it on the highway.
His last truck was an '01 R/T and it had 4.56's also , he thought he could live with 3.92's in this one since it's a 5 speed but he complained about it feeling undergeared since the first day he got it.

Well yeah I bet, going from the torque monster 360 w/ 4.56s to a lil 4.7 would feel a lil undergeared.
Now all he needs is a 6spd!
