I recently bought a dakota sport, and I'm looking for a exhaust system for it. I was wondering what kind of systems you guys have on your dakotas, and what you think of them. Any input is great.

No doubt, MBRP. It has the best sound and no loss of low end power. Forget flowmaster, gibson, and all the others, youll only be dissapointed. Check out, premier-automotive.net.

Have the Gibson dual sport and very impressed with it. Nice gain and great but not overbearing sound. (here we go with the same old argument, hehehe).

Go with a mufflerless system, like I have. Sounds
amazing, compliments all the time, cheaper than a
flowmaster/mopar set up, and more gain in the HP
department. You might loose a little low end, but that
truck has plenty of it. I had a 3" collector with 2 2"
exhaust paths (Y-piped right after the cat) with 3"
chrome tips for like $180.

Has anyone discovered a NON-FLOWMASTER muffler that has a V8 sound for the 3.9 V6? How about the MBRP or Dynomax Ultra Flow? I installed a Magnaflow, and while I love the way the muffler is built, I'm still trying to force myself to like the sound. I'll bet it sounds good on a V8, but it stinks on a V6.

Depends on what you're looking for. Depends on the motor. Do you want it loud? Do you want mainly performance?
I've always had a good exhaust shop make me something, never paid more than $300, instead of paying $600+ for the kit and then paying to have it installed. Right now on my 4.7 I'm running a 3" cat and 3" cat-back, with a Flowmaster, which exits before the rear passenger wheel. Loud as hell, sort of hurt low end (too large) and helped high end, but I'm not staying NA for ever :-)

MBRP Dual
stainless mandrel bent was only 509.00 w/shipping
and took about an hour with ordinary hand tools. If you paid 300.00 or more for a shop to put on aluminized, non-mandrel bent you got ripped off. It will only last a few years and the stainless is a lifetime investment. My buddy and I put a gibson on his ford f-150, and the quality was far less than the MBRP (pipe & welds). I am a union pipe fitter and I can weld any metal you can give me. Right now we are doing a job at the citgo refinary plant and all the pipe is 12" chromium pipe and bigger. Everthing we do is heli-arced,(tig) and x-rayed. If you have any bad spots you have to cut it out and start over. If anyone dosent know what chromium is, it is about the strongest metal you can get, besides titanium (and I can weld that too). Go with the mbrp and youll have no prbs.

I got my flowmaster 40, pipes bent hung welded, 4 inch chrome tips for $220 altogether. For me that was great I personally prefer the sound of the flowmaster. Didn't feel that I lost any power on low end. I actually thought that i gained. So best advice go with what you like.

Titanium is welded with a pure fusion (no filler rod), you put a j-bevel on the pipe, it kinda looks like a U when two pieces are put together. You have to use a heli-arc setup (tig), with a follower. A follower as we call it, is a kind of track so you can hold the torch the right way. It is so hard to expalin unless you see it. We have so many homemade jigs to help, but it is still a pain in the A$$. My local union 597 has me working a minimum of 7 days a week 12 hours a day. If you want more there is more. My hourly rate is $33.00 an hour, time and a half after 8, double time on sundays, (can you say SUPERCHARGER.)

Tony,

How do you build a bead with no filler and such a deep bevel? Do you melt from the top sides and then puddle in the groove as you tack back and forth?

Just curious and sorry it's off topic.

Titanium, is usually sent out in a schedule 10. The wall thicknes is only about 5/32 to 3/8 of an inch. That is why we put a j-bevel on it. The j-bevel leaves enough metal to fill. If you want a thicker wall you would weld the first pass with no filler and then fill it out with a filler metal.

I put MBRP split duals, sounds mean, a bit loud in the cab but not unbearable, I gained a noticable amount of power thru the powerband but lost about 1 MPG. (Yes I went back to driving normal for a tankful, but less MPG for sure) A BIG pain ordering from Canada though
