Stock 2000 4.7L quad cab
how much power would a super charger (or turbo) add to it?
how much boost can it handle?
how much power can the transmission/rearend safely handle?
how would it affect milage?
Thanks =)

Shortest answer with any accuracy.... it depends.

The 4.7 motor and the drivetrain behind it have been proven to withstand the rigors of at least 10-12 psi of boost from a turbo system installed on a 5-spd club cab. That particular truck belongs to a fellow named Duner. Run a search here for his name and read all about his exploits.... he's making in the neighborhood of 425 to 450 hp by some accounts.

The fact that its a computer controlled transmission has presented some interesting results for the supercharged guys.... like at the first hint of boost, it will downshift and stay there until the boost levels out to vacuum. But so far, nobody's fragged and auto or a 5-spd that they've talked about here (because of a supercharger or turbo).....

How much boost you can handle also depends on what condition your engine is in. How many miles etc. As for power increase, a good rule of thumb is about 7% increase for each pound of boost.
My gas mileage after putting on my catback is about what it was before I put on the s/c (around 16 or 17). I have an auto, no problems with anything so far at 6psi except some pinging. Check out www.superchargersonline.com

Superchargers add anywhere from 80-120 horsepower on dakotas.Also, superchargers increase gas mileage.That's why they're so expensive.They can add extreme amounts of horsepower without affecting your gas mileage.It can probably handle 6-9 lbs. of boost.Your stock transmission can handle it, easy.
Oh,
your welcome

I don't think superchargers increase gas mileage. Many kits come with auxillary fuel injectors. Anytime you use the supercharger (any time you are running boost) you are going to use more fuel.

tony,
i havent had any problems with the transfercase yet. We'll see how it goes this winter when i really put it thru the paces. I drove it pretty hard last winter in 4x4 and its holding up good. I'll throw it in 4 when i need to get off the line quick on dirt or gravel. I dont use it on the street or the track tho. I've put about 35,000 miles on the blower and the transfer case still feels strong.
