Subject: Headers????
IP: Logged

Message:

I have a 91 R/C dak 2wd with the 5.2L engine and A500 auto with 97,000mi. My manifolds are cracking and i would like to swap to headers. I am wondering what the gains would be such as hp mpg torque. I wondered if i would loose any of my low end or if it would inprove. I am going to have a custom Y-pipe built for it but dont know what size of pipe to run. I have 2.5" right now and am planing on running the stuff i have on it for know but will eventually replace the cat and muffler. I am looking at getting full length hooker's. If there is a difference between the full and the shorty headers that would be helpful. I am also doing this as a go fast mod thanks

Go with some JBAs or some Mopars.Mopar headers and JBAs will both help out low end, and can improve gas mileage. From the JBAs expect about a 17hp gain and a 25lbs.-ft.I'm not sure on gains from the Mopar headers.Definently go with full-length headers, though.I would go with a 3in. y-pipe.Just my two cents worth.

Your 91 is a premagnum engine-- mopar made tubular manifolds that are basically shortie headers... Don't know if you can still get those... Otherwise, you could look for a set of LA-318 headers and fab them up to your truck.

there is so much stuff out there for the 318, just look around, you should be able to find something that will give you substancial gain. There is alot to work with in that engine. Full length are best and definetly stainless or ceramic coated, because you dont want your headers to rot out. Try JBA and Dyno max. Dyno max makes all of Mopar Performance Exhaust products, so I would go with them.

I bet you there are a dozen more companys that make headers for your 91 Dak. Just search around, I'd go with Mopar Performance too. Some have the o2 bungs welden in so you can take off your pre cats if you wanted too. Plus they add the most torque and hp.

I've put up a partial listing of headers. The only one I show for the 91 Dak are by Hooker.

Headers

If you have some additions to the page let me know so I can add 'em.
