Acording their webs site the supercharger is crap. They have figures showing that a stock Ram 5.9 has 1186 RWHP @ 3900 RPMs and with the kit you get 262 RWHP @ 4500 RPMs.

System2600,

Ok you want a miracle, then kneel down and pray for one.

At 6#'s of boost almost any super charger will only produce about 40% more power. Well with that in consideration lets take the #'s 186 RWHP stock and add 40% will equal 260.4 RWHP. WO! Sounds like it is doing exactly what it is supposed to be doing. Doesn't sound like crap to me.

Looking at the figures of 186 RWHP for stock it's loosing about 25% through the driveline. Well if you use simple second grade math and recalculate the Crankshaft HP then 262 / .75 = 348. Well 350 Crankshaft HP, we see an actual increase of about 100 hp.

Now lets get into 4th grade economics. The Kit costs about $3,500 for the 5.9. Now let's divide the $3,500 by 100 Crankshaft HP = $35 a horse. Well that's right in line with almost any performance modification made on a vehicle. The average, (you can check this any where) per horse average cost for performance modifications is $38.

Now I know this sounds kind of high, and I've always thought it was. But if you want to play, you got to pay. That's the reason you don't see a whole bunch of youngsters hanging out at the strip winning. McDonald's doesn't pay enough to build serious performance automobiles. Most true performance enthusiasts sacrifice the vacations and trips to Disney land to buy performance equipment for their rides. Or they let their kid’s graduate high school and they start working on their DREAM CAR.

Snap back to reality man.

One thing to keep in mind with the KB kits is that they use their own "Optimizer" add-on PCM. It is tuned for a 100% STOCK vehicle. Once you add anything such as: headers, TB, cam, heads, roller rockers, etc...you need to have it recalibrated. They (KB) will give you a ration of sh-t for this and will tell you that it won't help make any more power. You can ask them to recalibrate it for the new modifications...but it may not work properly anymore.

Those superchargers also run hot. We saw this two years ago on a '98 R/T with the KB system on it. He went from 13.2's to 13.9's in the 1/4 mile after a few runs with a 5-10 minute cool-down between runs. The blower was too hot to touch.

They're a good system for someone who wants to install it on their vehicle and leave it alone (towing purposes or just wants quick and easy HP/TQ). For modified engines...Paxton/Vortech are the best out there (and the most expensive), but you can easily tune them for different engine/performance combinations.

Bernd,

My main point was the power to price thing. By the way I will be getting my truck from Dallas on the 2nd of December. I would like a chance to come by your shop in Austin to talk to you about the Turbo setups and make arrangements for this.
Please have everything cleaned up, I hate a dirty shop (just kidding). Hit me with an e-mail, and we can work out the smaller details.

I totally understand the price/performance issue. Didn't want to sound like I disagree with your comments.

Stop on by the shop anytime. Just call us ahead of time so we can clean up the floor. ;)

I've heard of tuning issues on the 5.2/5.9 Kenne Bell kits and can't really comment on them any further than that. I can tell you however... that the kits for the 4.7L are EXCELLENT!! Everyone warned me about how bad the other kits were, but I went ahead and got one for the 'ol 4.7L almost two years ago anyway. Right when they first came out. I just sold it last week to someone that inquired about it on this forum. I didn't sell it because of any issues I had. I never had a single problem with the kit in the 21 months and 20,000+ miles I had it on. It was on my work truck and driven daily. I miss my boost allready! :(
However the offer was right and came at the right time, so I didn't turn it down.

I will tell you that when it comes time to Supercharge my R/T I'll probably be going Paxton. Heard nothing but good things about that SC on the 5.9L engines.
