Subject: Which Throttle Body?
IP: Logged

Message:
I've decided to spercharge my 01 CC 4.7/5 spd/3.55 DAK, but it won't be until next year when I get the $$ together. In the meantime, I want to change out the stock throttle body. Can I go do a 72 MM Flowmetrics now (will it be drivable?), do a 70MM unit now, or should I wait until I do the SC? My existing mods are: 180T, 3923's, Jet II chip, Gibson cat dual swept side, Intense Perf 3" Z tube w 9" proflow filter.
Any advice from you experts?

2nd question: can I adapt my 3 " z tube to either the 70 or 72 mm unit?

not an expert by far, but I would go with fastmans 71mm for only $200 as opposed $400 for the F&B TB

as for the intake, I (THINK) it's just the inside of the TB that has any difference in specs (I know with the fastmans, it's just a used core that was bored out) good piece though from what I here. ask CThomp he has a fastman 68mm

Line-X Over The Rail Bed Liner
Home Brew Intake
Dual Exhaust
3923 Autolite Plugs
Krypton 4300K Blue/Whites
Euro Clear Corners
Grille-Tech Grill Insert (Silver)
TPS Set At .705
Removed Rubber Flap
I've used Mobil -1 Full Synthetic Oil And Filter Since I Had 6,000 miles

Now you know if you mention F&B I'd have to chime in :)

The F&B 70mm would work the best in this situation-- Since you are NA now, and will run possibly SC later (KenneBell?). It will perform just fine with your SC. To adapt to your 3" Z-tube you'd need a 3" ->4" coupler which we sell for $27.00-- Total price with coupler, shipped would be less than $400.00

The F&B comes with a 30 day return policy, so there's no risk in buying something that doesn't perform-- We stand behind that. No core charges either-- keep your stock core. The 70mm F&B outflows a 71mm from Fastman-- Don't take my word for it, try one for yourself. I have 70mms built, ready to ship.

RTDKOTA: Thanks for the advice. I feel better knowing someone has a coupler for my z tube. Could you answer one more question: Will the 70 MM be OK with the SC or will it significantly restrict performance in comparison to a 72 MM unit? I like the KB SC's....but can someone flash my PCM to work with it...I've got a 5 speed and not an auto. I'll contact you at the beginning of next month re the F&B purchase. GIve me your e mail address if you don't mind.
Thanks in advance for any more info.

KB will flash your PCM when you get the supercharger. The Optimizer II is also included in the kit. Before you send in your PCM to be flashed they will ask what mods you have.
