Subject: Rough Idle and Lurching IP: Logged
Message: Help me. I've put in 3923's, 180 t-stat, Gibson Cat back, Intense Z-tube and Fastman TB all within the past few weeks, in that order. Now my truck idles roughly, stalls, and when I am stopped it feels like some one taps me from behind. I comes and goes, some days worse than others. I've got the TPS at .75v. I didn't really notice it until the fastman, but it was all installed within a few days of eachother. The shifting seems a lot more sporadic too, but maybe I am just looking for more probs?
Any ideas, where do I start? New plugs? Could it be the IAT, PCM? I don't want to go to the dealer because I know they will blame the mods and make me pay for it. I guess I could take the Z-tube off and try that too.
The truck has about 7,000 miles on it. It doesn't bother me a whole lot but the other day it stalled after I slipped it into neutral to coast into my driveway and I just about took out my mailbox, (I guess my wife shouldn't drive it!)

Message: I have heard about some running issues with the 3923s and the 4.7. Nothing to what you are describing though. Make sure the top of the plug where the tip screws on is tight. Any codes?

Message: Hey C-dub, thanks for the reply. I was hoping to hear from you.
I picked up some 5224's (or whatever the equiv. of OEM's is) and will put them in to see if that makes a difference.
I don't have any error lights. Is that what you mean? How do I check for codes?
Thanks!

Message: could be a problem with the Idle air Control motor(On the back of the TB) as well. Do you hear a hissing sound when the idle gets rough(you will probably only hear it with aftermarket intake)? If so there is a TSB about the EGR solenoid for some of those trucks.

Message: Does the IAC have an o-ring? Come to think of it, I don't think I have one on there now and maybe I lost it when swapping out the TB.

Message: Yeah it is at the base of the IAC where it goes into the throttle body. Turn the key on three times fairly quickly and leave it on the third time. The code should come up in the odo window as a P number.

Message: Had to give up the autolites, the idle just wasn't right, but once running they did good. Went with a MSD coil, it help but didn't solve the rough idle enough.

Message: I had similiar symptoms (rough idle, lurching and stalling) after I adjusted my TPS to 0.7 volts.
What happened was I tightened the screws holding the TPS too much causing the sensor to remain "open" after I revved the engine. What this means is that when the engine went back to idle the sensor sent an open throttle signal to the computer. The computer then fed more fuel into the engine which caused the engine to stall. I checked the TPS voltage after it stalled one time and the meter read ~ 3 VOLTS!!!!!! Yikes!!!!!
I just simply loosed the TPS screw a little and the problem went away.

Message: Well I rechecked the TPS voltage and it was too at .85v. Lowered it a little and the problem seems to be fixed.
Thanks!

Message: TPS stands for Throttle Position Sensor. It is a 3 wire wensor on the side of your throttle body that sends a voltage to the ecm about the position of the throttle. The signal varies from about .7v to 4 or 5 volts
