Subject: Autolite Question ? IP: Logged
Message: I went into Lordco today and asked if they carried autolite plugs for my 3.9 00'
And he said ya... But he said that they were something like 5445's ? Instead of 3932's ? or whichever they are ? Does anyone know if thats right ?
Or is he wrong?

Message: Those are the stock plugs the 3923`s are a colder heat range plug, meaning the electrode and tip are shorter= a cooler running plug to help with detonation,I myself found the NGK v-power ZFR5F-11 plugs to work better for me and they are the same heat range as the stock plugs.

Message: Totally different animals. The 3923s are a colder, but standard plug. The 5224s are stock heat range but double platinum. Any Autolite dealer should have both; got mine at NAPA.

Message: If you're engine is pinging from detonation, use the colder plugs. If not, use the standard heat range so they don't foul. The choice is yours whether you want to run standard copper plugs or platinum. Some here say don't use platinum, no real reason not to.

Message: When would be a good time to change plugs? I mean how many miles? I have 31,000 on mine right now do they need to be changed? Also I heard that the Platinum plugs have more resistance than copper so the coils have to work harder to produce as much spark and therefore shortens the life of the coil packs? Any truth to this?

Message: Good day, gentlemen:
Go with the Autolite 3923s, they work extremely well, most of the guys here run them. My truck runs better with them. And if you upgrade your ignition to MSD, Moroso, etc., do NOT use platinum plugs. They will melt, the copper 3923s won't.
Hope that helps you.
Best Regards, Alex (The Canadian)

Message: Correct lug for 3.9 is Autolite #5224. One step colder is #5223. Correct heat range but shorter plug (don't stick out into cylinder) is #3924 and one step colder is #3923. My truck runs best E.T. on #3923. NGK equivalent to #3924 is ZFR5F-11. NGK equivalent to # 3923 is ZFR6F-11. Higher number is colder in NGK but Hotter in Autolites.
