Subject: Need more speed! IP: Logged
Message: Need some advice. I have a 99 Dakota Sport 5sp, with a Magnum V6 that is totaly stock. As many of you know, the RPM's have to be way up before it will gain much speed and even then it's not really that quick. It's almost wound out but it's not going anywhere. What is something within a decent price range that I can do to really improve this performance problem? Thanks.

Message: What you can do for free is read all of the V-6 archive and all of the Performance archive. Then ask that question again.

What gears do you have?
In the last week there has been about 5 post on the same question.
The only mods that I could see doing for the most increase for a reasonable price is a cam or high ratio RR. If you have large tires or 3.55 gears going to 3.92 or 4.10 will help get things moving faster.

Message: I am looking at spending no more than 1,000. I really don't want to mess with the internal components of the motor. I am thinking along the lines of computer chips, intakes etc. That's what I'm asking yall. What can I put on my engine up to 1,000 to gain the most power?

Message: alright. Here goes. I don't know much. but I know this.
No TB Spacers
No Jet Chips
Most performance parts made by mopar are great. The K&N FIPK is a great add on, by far my best performance mod (All Ive done was that, and the PCM, which I sold) I own a 5.9 RT so This may be different for you. I KNOW that the FIPK is a great performance part and the PCM will be good for shift points and does in fact increase horsepower. And I've HEARD the M1 intake manifold, and some sort of aftermarket throttle body will be your best bet.
My .02
Thanks

Message: The Jet Stage-II does work just fine on the V6's. It's the 5.2/5.9L that they don't respond to very well.
The M1 manifold is only for the 5.2/5.9L engines so you're stuck with the factory V6 manifold.
As for the throttle body, either a factory V8 TB conversion or an aftermarket 48mm is perfect for the V6.
