Message: already did it put my R/T in a deep ditch that ended up totaling it!! I am fine but the truck is dead which sucks. I wish i would of put some sand bags in the back that morning like 200 pounds it wouldnt of happend if i did. Anyways i just barely went to speed up the road was ucky. I wasnt exactly going fast or punching it. Just lightly accelrated and lost traction and couldnt recover it.

Message: My 93' 2wd long bed had the same problem when I had stock tires. I put 2 1/2 inch taller 10.5 inch wide a/t tires on with the 3.55 gears and have alot more traction. Now I have the problem that they slowed me down so much in want 4.10 gears. I actually miss the sliding, it was fun to me. I liked catching the slides, I thought it honed my driving skills. I loved the look on people's faces when my truck got side ways at 45. Maybe I just missed my calling in the World of Outlaws or maybe I am just crazy.
Sorry to hear about your truck, are you going to get a new one?

I have an uncle who says that when u have 255/55/17r's on that if u just add like 300 pounds right on top of the rear axel in the back of the truck bed. IT give the same effect of having narrower tires because it increases the pressure pure a sq inch on the larger tire. Do u see what i mean by this?

Message: The loss of gear multiplication from the switch to the 265/75 tires is what stopped me from sliding. the tires turned my 3.55 rear gears into 3.20's. The fact that the A/T tires are a softer rubber raised the sliding threash-hold. I don't slide in the rain under normal driving except on slow turns(right rear tire spins only). I can't even chirp the tires on dry pavement anymore without power-braking.

Message: Well all winter long I put on 235/75/15 tires on my R/T and 500 pounds of sand over the axle. That cuts my rear end ratio and rasies the contace pressure but still the thing will kick out in the rain with hardly even 3/4 throttle. On the snow you really gotta drive soft on the throttle. During all of the spring, summer, and fall rains I run around with no weight and the stock 17's but it really isn't a problem, you just got to drive for the conditions and not be a maniac all of the time. If you want to be a maniac all of the time get a WRX!

Message: If you can't drive your truck in the rain you are a moron. Don't mash the gas is my only tip. You smashed it because you were probably doing something you shouldn't have, right? Trust me, I did it earlier this year, but I got lucky with only a dented bumper. I think you know the answer to your question. Here's a hint, bags are not the solution.

Message: A month ago I was driving 5 under the limit on the way to the dodge dealer, hydroplaned into a flooded grass median between freeway lanes, and I wasn't doing a damn thing wrong, and was actually nervous about driving it because I had only had the truck for 4 days and that was my first time in the rain, but my being careful didn't help a goddamn thing, so let's not start pointing fingers..

Message: Mine drives great in the rain, hell the other day I ran it up to 115mph in the rain on the interstate because I was in a rush. It's a '99 Club Cab and has a 'glass toneau cover on it which seems to help with traction.
The only bad part is when I drive my '86 Ram after I'm used to driving the Dakota for a while . I usually turn it around backwards the first time I try to pull out onto the street, it has a 430hp 360 , 275/60/15's and is pretty light in the back.

Message: I'm one of those crazy bastards that like to slide around.
I have driven alot of cars and trucks ... but the GenIII CC has been one of the most stable rides in the rain that I have experienced. I dunno if it's the weight or tires or the power when you need it, not sure. I know stopping can be a problem with directional treaded tires. I just haven’t tried the snow and ice yet with this truck.

Message: so u drive it all year around in the washington weather. Good state i live there too. But i think it was just a miss fortanate issue with my R/T because i just got new falken zeix which had been greased by les swab not to mention i think there was something on the road. I have lost traction in the back like that but have always got it back except that time ! I had a RC R/T with no wieght in the back.

Message: That would make it better but you still have the problem of 2 much torqe, light backend and a low gear ratio. That is why many of my friends/relatives who are into auto proformance recommend sand bags to help keep that back of the truck to the ground.

Message: SO bags are the solution from what i hear for my new R/T in the rain once i locate a used one. I would never drive it in the snow anyways that would be like a road hazard lol. Anyways i dont think i would do it in the snow even if i was u its really hard with rear wheel drive from what i hear. My moms got a denali xl thats what we use in the snow my dads front wheel drive cadillac has a hard time in the snow so i would be very careful if i was u. U dont want to lose ur truck. Just how i feel

Message: It's all in the tires and weight in the bed. A good set of tall and skinny siped tires, weight in the bed, and a light foot is all you really need. However, I do avoid all steep hills at all costs. If I stop on one for a light, I am screwed. You about have to use your rolling weight to get moving sometimes, but you get used to it.

Message: BlueCC00RT, I'm just east of Vancouver, and I'm game if you want to match notes on whats "Normal".
Weight in the bed does make a big difference. My old GenII had a 5th wheel hitch in it all time and I defiantly felt a difference when it was out, and it only weighed about 100lbs.
And for this winter I'll be sporting a really nice set on Nokian WR-T 255/55 R17 for my madman pleasures in the rain and high speed needs.

Message: I don't technically own an R/T, but my truck is sitting in my driveway. I gave it a good smack in the face actually. It should be up in another *looks at calendar* exactly two weeks from now. My local body shop -- the good one and only one I will go to -- has a two week waiting list on average. I got put in at three weeks wait, but quality work is worth the wait.
Until then, I just wax it!
