Message: Actually running to high of an octane can hurt the performance. The higher the octane the longer the burn time. If your truck runs fine of 89 stay with 89.

Message: I have never had a problem with my 3.9 CC 4x4 running regular 87 octane. I have never heard it ping and I have towed a 19 foot ski boat with it and had no problems. I agree with handi, running too high of an octane can hurt performance.

Message: I believe the only way octane can enhance performance is by supressing detonation. For example, it allows you to run more boost or more timing. If you are not having any detonation problems with the octane you are using, do not go to higher octane.
