Message: I don't think it's listed in any book, the 180 for the 4.7 that is.
You can't go that route, asking them for the correct part, that's not in a book.
YOu could purchase it from Speadtweaks, or:
Go to a store such as AutoZone- Look for the RoberShaw GT755-180, That's the one! Fits all the magnums, including the new gen 4.7.
Use the same rubber 0-ring, no gasket needed!
Look up a search as suggested for some awesome instructions about the change. That's what I did on my 4.7, and even wrote some instructions that just may show up on a search of this site.
It's not too hard, good luck.
remember GT755-180, same gasket(actually a rubber kind of O-ring.

Message: AutoZone has NO IDEA if a GT755-180 Robert Shaw t-stat will fit a 4.7 Dak.
Before I did mine a year ago, Bernd is the one who e-mailed me about it.
Do you not believe your fellow Dak brethren, who have already done it? Or would you believe someone who works at Autozone? OH, that's right, it's not in there little book, or database, oh, I almost forgot, better take mine out then!
Just notch out the little part to make the o-ring fit right. Many people have posted that they did the install without adding the little notch though, and it worked fine, I used my wire cutter and notched out a little divot. If you hold the old and new together, you'll see what I'm talking about. If you don't see it, I wouldn't attempt this anyway.
I think Stant's stat (hey that rhymes) works also.
Or, you could just believe the autozone salesperson, who isn/t part of the Dak brotherhood. Last time I was in there, there was a fine looking girl behind the counter, don't think she's done this install however, then again, maybe she has.

Message: My Robert Shaw works fine on my 4.7, no leaks and I didn't make the little notch. However, I can also attest that it made no noticeable difference in performance either.

Message: Bill,
Wait, you thought the 180 T-stat was supposed to change performance somehow?
I guess that's why you have a Jet II on your 4.7 also, right?

Message: A 180-degree thermostat will open at 180-degs F. and let radiator water flow through the engine. If the water in your radiator heats up to more than 180 than the engine will run at the higher temp.
The thermostat will not cool your engine; The radiator coolant does that.
