Subject: Ultimate 4.7 Truck? Duner, CW others...

I had a thought here other night, and want to see what you guys think. If you have the current 4.7 truck running good times with little available modifications in a heavy body. Mine is currently running 9.53 in the 1/8th(2000 4.7 cc auto)(about 4200 pounds if not more). What if you took the 4.7 and put some of the up and coming heads/cams/intake and current throttle bodies and computer flashes and so on togeather. them put the motor in one of the older smaller dakotas that weight around 3000 pounds. In comparing my times would not the weight loss be worth about a second and the engine work with some slick being good for another .5 second in the 1/8th???

My current truck is a 2000 4.7 cc auto
Leach PCM
4.10 gears
High Flow Cat/ Muffler
Cold Air Intake
No Fan Clutch
IAT Adjuster
BFG Radial TA's
Traction Bars
180 thermostat
About 4200 pounds(probably more)
9.53@71 with 2.08 60 foot

What do you guys think??? Am I crazy think the 4.7 in about a 95 Dakota would with motor work would run say a 8.00 in the 1/8th. It is just a thought, and sorry for the chapeter of a book style post.

How are you running 9.71's at just 70.70 with 2.235 60's when my 2001 4.7L 5 speed with 3.92 can only muster 2.443 60's and a 9.966 at 72.618? Its weird to me but Im new to this racing stuff. By the way that run ended in the quarter with a 15.398 at 89.140

DMSDAK....

You didn't say if you were CC or regular cab, this difference shouldn't be that much anyway. Get some tires, your 60ft can be improved by about 4 tenths of a second.

My '00 SLT 4.7 5-spd Regular cab with 275-60-15's tonneau cover, removed spare tire, and a single Flowmaster muffler cuts 2.0 60ft'ers.

We just had our track down here resurfaced. I know that helps out having a sticky track. You would swear you're walking on Bubble Gum.

2.0 60ft'ers gives me a 9.4 in the 1/8th at 73-74mph...

The 1/4 in 14.80-14.95 @ 90-91mph.

Just practice your launching techniques. I usually launch at about 2,800RPM, slightly slipping the clutch, until I'm out of the hole. I don't powershift, just fast as hell.

A 95 Dakota regular cab, with power nothing, a HO 287, 5-speed tranny, and a 3:92 limited slip would rock. Maybe with the heads ported, oversized TB, good exhaust, and slicks could see close to a 8.0 1/8th mile. Somebody drop one in.

Better keep the helium in your tires guys. Mine weighs a little over 4000lbs with a full tank of gas and me in it with all the stuff behind the seat.

Sounds like to much work to me. Put all the goodies on the engine then turbo it. Duner now has a 12.55 last I looked. That was smoking the clutch down the quarter. Nice smell don't you think Duner?

I think it would run pretty good with a 4.7 in the older body..... but it would be a ton of work. I'm thinking a crate 380 engine would work wonders! hahaha

CW - The only thing worse than that burned clutch smell is gear lube! hahaha Put the new clutch in saturday. Hopefully I won't be smelling clutch again for a while!

hey duner, did you just replace your clutch with the OEM kind or did you get a center force clutch? Hows the tranny holding up to all that power?

I went with the Centerforce II clutch this time. The original stock one held up for a very long time... I was quite impressed with it to be honest. I just figure that I am pushing it a little bit for the stock one and would try one that's supposed to have some more holding power.

The tranny seems to be holding up just fine....knock on wood!

Hey, Duner
That Ceterforce dual friction clutch is my best mod yet. You can really tell a difference on the

You can tell a difference from the stock clutch with those few mods? You're stocker wasn't slipping was it? I dynoed about 250 crank HP stock and now have HO Cams. My stocker has never slipped and if I downshift and pop the clutch the rear always clamps down and slides or chirps the tires. Really good clutch IMO, think its an 11" deal. Which is the same size as a Mustang Cobra.

you can probably tell the difference because the centerforce clutches are a lot more 'grabby' (for lack of a better word). What I've found is that the 'soft spot' where the clutch engages and disengages is a lot longer on OEM clutches than on centerforce ones.

Thats the way it was with my 'Stang, but I don't see it being too much different for our trucks.

In short, I'm sure the butt dyno can tell you have a different clutch, but I highly doubt you'll see any difference at the track (unless your name is Duner) :)
