CW can U tell me when dodge started to do the pcm flash on the 4.7 dakota for the pinging when they retarded the timing.
I have a 2000 4.7 QC dakota that I bought in august of 2000 and the truck was made in may of 2000 the pcm has a flash sticker on it but I had the dealer run the vin# and they said that there was no ping flash done on that vin# and i have never had it to the dealer,can U tell me if there was a different flash or what it could be.

To know if you have the flash I need the part number of the PCM. Not the one on the outside the one read by a hand held scanner. If you can get that part number I will run it and see what it has for a flash.
To sort of answer your question they started about a year or so ago. I really don't remember.

CW here is what I have.
The first sticker on the pcm is Huntsville with a P/N 03GBP11F14
The sticker on top of that reads Authorized Software Update Module P/N P56040429AG
Module S/N Teh124018ZIs

I will try and remember to look at work tommorow. As long as that is the latest update and the tech didn't forget to put the sticker on.

Hate to tell you but with a AG in the part # it kinda looks like you got the death flash. I will check though.

Well I am glad to be wrong. According to the computer at work the next update contains the flash.

Never looked that up. Pretty much always on small drivability problems.

Yep the AH has the death flash. I have no idea how much it affects the performance of the 4.7 because I refuse to do it. Unless the customer is a real dick.;)

easy way to remember that is if you see the 'AH' on your PCM, your typical reaction should be:
'AH!!!'
CW, would it be possible to flash it with some other software update, and overwrite the death flash? For example, if you flashed it with the P6040429AG or some other update.
Just a thought.

Thanks Guys. I was afraid of that. It drives real "soft" like the computer is de-tuning it. I just bot it so I had no idea of how it ran before. Is there a dealer supplied solution or is my only/ best option a Leach flash?
TIA for your help. I'm sure glad I found this board.

About the only way to get rid of it is to get a different computer from chrysler. They are not programed with the death flash from the factory. Or get a custom flash. The computer at work will not let my put anything but the latest avalible in a computer, which is the death flash.
