Subject: frame damage...question IP: Logged
Message: okay, I was hit in the rear, and my frame is a
little twisted. What does Dodge usually
recomend, replace it, or can it be heated up
and straightened. keep in mind, the truck is
only a year old, and I want it to come out of the
shop the same as it did before the accident. If
you techs out there know that Dodge doesnt
recomend to straighten the frame, please let
me know... I dont want to have the frame
straightened and find out the hard way, the
next time I get hit.

Message: do you have a choice? if you do, get a new frame! nothing can beat a new frame.

Message: they recomend a new frame only if it's
recomended by Dodge. the guy at the
dealership said only if it is "mangled" if it is
slightly twisted, it's safe to repair.

Message: It all depends how bad it is. There was a 98 Dak at my work 2 weeks ago that was written off from hitting a pole at 20km. By looking at it, it only looked like it needed a hood, grille, bumper and fender. But by the time I took it apart and looked closer the frame was unrepairable.
How hard were you hit? Changing the frame is a very costly thing and the insurance would stay away from it if at all possible. The general rule for replacing full frames is if its crushed in a crush zone, which Dodges don't have. Your likely better off having it repaired cause your entire truck would have to come apart to change the frame.

Message: no, I'm lucky I had the OEM bumper on, roll
pan will be on once its out of the shop. I know,
I know, but the OEM bumper is so gay.
