Subject: Will a rebuild last? IP: Logged
Message: I think I have to rebuild my 87 3.9L.....got a knock in it( not a ping) is it worth going into it to rebuild it...or should I buy a short block for $650 or long block for $1350 from CSK auto stores and will they last?
Can i get a performace rebuild somewhere?
Hard to put in?

Message: Just had my 2000 dak in the shop for a knock (not a ping) (got it back yesterday, actually).. dealer asked the same question. It was warranty work, so it wasn't a question of money. They took the oil pan off, looked at the oil, and saw how much damage was done by the crap in the oil, and decided it was NOT worth it to rebuild... even though thats what they originally planned on doin...
They just ordered a short block, cause my heads only had 14xxx miles on them. In your situation, you'd have to consider the long block option, I'd imagine... or maybe you can just go thru your old heads... clean them up, sorta.
Hope this helps...

Message: just depends on the quality I know that at work we bought three of them from napa and I got one for my brothers bronco. Out of all of those only two didnt have any problems so its a 50 50 shot with them. Id personally only go with rebuilds done by local shops anymore weve got a lot of race car builders around here and they do a great job.
