Subject: Boring tranny holes IP: Logged
Message: I read a while back on here from someone about the transgo kit, they said they had installed that and bored all the holes out as big as they could go. What are these 'holes'? How does boring them out help?
And, does boring them out larger add to or subtract from the life of the tranny? I know the transgo supposedly helps the tranny run more effeciently, dunno bout this hole thing though. Thanks!

Message: the holes they are boring out are holes that are on a metal plate that goes in the tranny. You drill different sized holes for differnt settings(street, race, etc...)

Message: Waltherone,
That was probably me referring to those holes..back when i had a 3.9 I put the shift kit in...and there was an instruction book for installation....and there were a few holes...and it was like... bore it this big (small hole pictured) for normal shifts...a little bigger for a harder shift...and like the biggest one was for racing/RV towing shifts... from what i understood the bigger you bored them (to the biggest size possible they listed) the harder the shifts.. Also there were a few check balls and maybe a spring...its been a few years..that you could leave out that said it would make the shifts even harder.. well, lemme tell ya...when that 3.9 changed gears you woulda thought it was a monster engine... 2nd gear screamed (NOT chirped) EVERY time...and 3rd gear would bark anytime you weren't on brand new blacktop. It was killer...and it would snap ya back against the seat...even into 4th gear you could feel it. I put 40 thousand miles on it with it like that.... and never had the first problem...and TRUST ME....i am NOT easy on vehicles...ever saw that sticker "drive it like you stole it"? thats the way i always drive.. :)

Message: OOOH.
Ok. Well, that's simple enough :D
Also, does anyone know any good transmission shops in houston? The 4.7 kit isn't out yet, but when it comes out I wanna get it immediately, but my mechanical skills are FAR from what one would call "decent", and I was looking at instructions for the 46RE install and that's way out of my league.
Know of any shops in/near houston that would be able to install on a 45RFE given that there haven't been ANY installs for it in the past they would have done?
