Hey everybody! im 17, my father just gave me a 2000 dakota sport club cab, its red hard toneau cver and a sir michaels roll pan. Im gonna put clear corners, street scene grille and valance inserts, tint the windows, apc tailights and a 3"/5" drop,but first i want to get my dak runnin fast it had a stock 3.9 v6 auto trans in it. Can anyone please tell me the first things i should do to get my dakota running fast? the first thing i want to do is an exhaust system, anyone have any ideas on which i should use? i want it to sound good and powerful with out that annoying honda civic gook tube sound i've heard on many v6's

Well, being of asian descent, I take offense to the term "gook", but am willing to let it pass, and offer a little bit of advise.
Start with the intake, then exhaust, headers. I'm sure everyone else can give you details on other things.

i would skip headers for now. i would get intake, exhaust, v8 tb, shift kit,then go with the drops. then add on from there

oh and about that gook comment, its ironic that i see more "white" american males driving ricers more than i see asian people driving ricers. anyways, i would recommend just a dynomax superturbo muffler. its cheap, easy to install, and sounds mean as hell.

You see white guys driving 'ricers' because they THINK they have style, whereas more asians (at least around here) drive japanese IMPORTS, and their IMPORTS (notice lack of the word ricer in the description) are actually fast..
In town lately people have been ape sh!+ over rice, you got cavaliers on 17 or 18's, NOT lowered accordingly, so theyre riding like 16 inches off the ground...they just look ridiculous. That's one reason I got the v8 dak, got sick of people THINKING they had somethin..
First night, saturday night it was, had a lil cavvy and jetta GT harassin me at about 60mph....even stock I was able to put them in their place. BUT, had those cars had greddy TURBOS under the hood, rather than greddy stickers on the hood, they might have actually been a problem..

thanks for the advice everyone. i didnt mean gook tube as a racial comment. one of my good friends is asian and the exhaust system he has on his car he calls a gook tube. sorry if anyone was offended. I also wasnt dissing on the ricers. i just hate how they sound. i want an exhaust system that sounds mean and powerful. i hear what your saying waltherone, there is alot of cavalers an wimpy cars like tha around here that are decked out with rims and stuff. i still whoop them stock with my dak, but i want my dak to haul some ass, i should have enough money by the end of this month for exhaust,intake, v8tb, and whatever else i need.

in regard to what Waltherone said about the "white" americans driving rice and the asians driving imports, i find, that in the area i live in, it is the other way around. i see most of the "white" americans driving the fast imports, and the asians driving the ricers. before i owned my dakota i used to own a 99 neon that probably would have put any stock dakota to shame, but because of some stupid soccer mom i lost my neon a few weeks ago. i'm not trying to say i don't like dakota's because i love them i have always loved them and i always will. and i am glad i found this forum because it will help me get my dakota to be just the way i like it...fast!

Well yeah there's plenty of white guys with fast imports, there's one guy here with a NICE civic with I think he said a b18 in it, turbo when he gets enough cash for it. But in this area, most of the ricers are white guys saw the fast and the furious at age 14 and said WOW I wanna be like that bright green eclipse! Little did they know that car runs a 14 second 1/4 mile in real life...not exactly as fast as its 140+ speedo showed durings its race...
No offense to any white guys tho, I'm white, I know how it is :D
