Message: wouldn't it be easier to just get a whole new rear end from a junkyard then just changing the ring and pinion?

Message: Oh yea, i have a 93 dakota with a manual trans. Would a low ratio gear be better or a higher ration gear be better?

Message: To both of your questions, the answer is: it depends.
1. For doing a rear end swap vs just the gears. If your current axle is in good shape, just do the gears. Simpler (ad hence less labor $ involved). If you've got an 8.25 and you want to switch to the beefier 9.25, then yes, do an entire rear end swap. The only reservation I have about junkyard parts is this: the vehicle your new/used rear end would come from wound up in a junkyard for a reason. For all you know it could be bent slightly, it could have 500,000 miles on it, it could have been poorly welded a dozen times...any number of problems. New parts in your existing rear end would probably be better, unless your axle is screwed up.
2. Lower or higher gears: What do you want out of a gear swap? Lower gears (higher numerical gears, like 3.92, 4.11, 4.56) will accelerate better and tow better at the expense of highway revs (higher) and fuel economy (lower). Higher gears (lower numerically, like 2.90, 3.21) will accelerate slower, but will give slightly better gas mileage and lower revs on the highway, and you'll be able to tow/haul less.
What you choose depends on what you've got now and what you want.

Message: I'm not sure what else you'd have to change. I think all the mounting points are the same...I can't see that dodge would change mounting points for two different axles on the same vehicle. But that assumes that Dodge offered the 9.25 on Dakotas in 93...I have no idea bout that. I know that they offer both on the current generation Dakota, but I don't know about 93, and I don't know if a current generation axle would bolt right up to a 93. If not, then you're talking about custom fabrication of spring mounts, shock mounts, and probably a dozen other things I can't think of off the top of my head.
