Message: i live in CA and i have about 1500.00(+ or - 100.00). what is the BEST bang for my buck i can get out there. I've looked at speedtweaks, and they seemed to have the best stuff, but their site is down. Should I wait????? I'm currently running a 2001 4.7 (287) CC all the fixins (cept 4wd) with a flowmaster cat-back Y pipe. i want help before i waste money. Message: HO cams, Kenne bell optimizer II, ported
Heads, cold air intake, 180 degree t-stat, high
flow cat, larger TB.
check www.KRCperformance.com, another
good dakota performance site.
you're gonna have no luck with a lightning,
with all the mods listed, depending on your
tranny, you could be low to mid 14's. unless
you invest in a supercharger, you're not gonna
go as fast as a stock lightning (yet) not
enough mods out there for the 4.7's

HO cams, HO intake manifold, sure grip LS
and 3.92's are still collecting dust ! ! !

Message: I think D hit the nail right on the head! Those are the best mods for the Buck. ... unless you go supercharged. And that's the only way you'd stand a chance against the lightning. Just a guess, but I think you'd run mid-low 13s with the S/C which is right around where the stock lightning runs I think .... it'd be a hell of a race.
Even if you go S/C'd most of the mods D listed would do nothing but help ... especially the ported heads and larger TB.
One trick though, since yours is a 2001, you have a 68mm TB (unlike my 2000 that has a 65mm TB) so if just ported it out yourself with a dremel, you'll be sitting pretty nice...or you could pay someone to do it for about $200.
I think no matter what you do, the HO cams are a must ... about $10/hp from what I hear.
