Message: Any suggestions on what to do about recalibrating the speedo for smaller tires.
I am thinking about going from the stock GY Eagle 255/65/16 to some firestone firehawk 255/50/VR16.
I have the 3.55 gears and besides lowering the truck an inch and a half, it will change my effective gear ratio to 3.96. On the other hand I don't want the 11.57% error on the speedo and tach.
Thanks,
PyRo

Message: check the diameter of the tires you are replacing with the new ones, if there was a size close enough offered from the factory on a dakota you can go to the dealer and they can change the tire size in the computer and your done. I swapped the 255/65/16's for a set of R/T wheels and tires and went to the dealer and they made the change and corrected the speedo/odo.
Good Luck

Message: The Dealer recently changed my speedo to compensate for my tire/rim changes. They didn't even charge me! (It took them about 2 miuntes to do it).
Your computer will have several standard tire sizes that can be inputed. Chances are, the size you will want will not be a choice. The computer program will allow for RPMs (revolutions per mile) from 680 to 740. This is probably the best way to enter the speedo change.
After you decide on your tire size, figure the RPMs. Tell your Dealer what RPMs you want and they can change it fast.

Message: I just ordered the tires. A local dealer quoted me a price of $900.00 for four tires. I laughed in his face and bought them from tirerack.com for $651.??. They should be here Monday and I should have them mounted and installed by the middle of next week.
