Hello All,

I am new to the Dakota world and would appreciate any advice any could give on performance/suspension for my truck.

I am looking for shadetree mechanic stuff, not forced induction. I have a life and a wife so $10K mods are not an option.

Also, anything that commonly goes wrong with these trucks.

I have a 97 Kota' with a 3.9 Automatic and AC. The only mod is a K&N drop in filter.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

A little tip:
Basically anything that is sold in a multiple of 8 for the 5.2/318 will work for the 3.9 in multiples of 6.

Meaning:
Pistons
Rods
Pushrods
Rockers
Valves
Valve springs
Sparkplugs
Sparkplug wires

can be used since the 3.9 is effectively a 5.2 w/ two cylinders missing.

One thing you can do that will instantly upgrade your performance is to read a LOT of the archives in the Performance section and the V-6 section of this website. Then you can start asking questions about what you've read.

I second what Alex said. Read a lot, and when you have a real good understanding of what you want from your truck, then start looking (hint: ebay rules!!)

97 3.9 CC Sport. Black. Auto 3.55, Quick D Intake, JBA Stainless headers, Autolite 3923s, stainless Borla Turbo XL & tip, V8 TB, FMS 19 lb fuel injectors, 17x10 Boyd Smoothies, JBA 9mm cables, Lakewood chrome traction bars. Have, but not installed: 3.92s, Infinity Sound System
