Subject: help w/exhaust size IP: Logged
Message: I'm redoing my exhaust after I lowering my truck (the pipes hit axle on bumps).
I have an '01 4.7 auto (Flow.2 chamber - single in / dual out)will it make any (realistically) difference if the two pipes exiting the muffler are 2 1/4,,, or 2 1/2 inch dia.?
I don't think it will,,,,I'm thinking bigger is better, but I don't want to lose too much back pressure.

Message: shouldnt make much diff, but the stock pipe is
2 1/2, why would you go smaller to a 2 1/4?
and believe me, save the hassle, and dump it
before the axle with a couple of turndowns. its
a lot cheaper, and gives you a deeper rumble.

Message: by going to a 1/4" smaller pipe, it will not solve this problem. i had the same problem, so i took it to a exhaust shop and they added a pice of pipe to extend the pipe closer to the bed where it went over the axle. it worked, but about a year later i cut it off and just dumped it before the axle.
i suggest you do one of those things

Message: dual 2 1/4" pipes flows more than a single 3" pipe so 2 1/2" is just overkill. What size are you getting as the single inlet? Unless you're going forced induction down the road, I'd recommend sticking with 2 1/2" in and dual 2 1/4" out for the 4.7L. The 5.9L probably responds better to 3" in, but the 4.7L doesn't.
just a thought.
