From what I heard they sound good.
I don't think you can do much to improve the stock intake.

Hey bobw. I just took a look at you profile and I really like the look and stance of your truck. Can you tell me what size rims and tires you have on there and is there anything done to your suspension or is that the stock height. You don't have this info in your profile that why I am asking you it here. Sorry sportdakota for going off topic.

Sportdakota - If you have the 300 bucks laying around for the kit, have nothing better to do, or have thought about making exhaust changes to make your dak sound better, go for it. The sound is full and throaty under a little load. The performance gains are strickly so-so. Its a little snappier on the throttle, and seems run throught the upper rpm range quicker, and it didn't hurt the low range power or torque, but it didn't seem to help it either. Overall I give the kit a thumbs up since I gave me better sound and didn't mess with my low end like exhaust would have, the power isn't bad, but 5-7 horses is nothing to gloat over. Gas milage might have gone up 1-1.5 mpg.

Personally, for $300-400, I'd go for intake manifold and cams first.

I'm defidently going with the cams next. I only did the intake first because I could get it (for about 12 hours) for less than what most people are going to pay. If I do anything after the cams, it'll be a KB Optimizer II - unfortunately, I still have trouble swallowing a computer upgrade - I haven't actually seen (with my own eyes, driven before and after) a computer upgrade that really did anything on the 4.7 except make the gas milage worse. According to what I hear, the Opt. II may be the exception to that.

Hey Cotharyus,
I have a similar truck, the Optimizer II is not worth the $370 that I paid for. If I would of had the chance to get another few days off, I would have returned it. I barely noticed any difference, if that. I think that the computer upgrades are only worth if you have an auto, not a 5spd. Or if you get them to advance the timing by alot, not just a few degrees. As for the cams, definately worth the money.

I've got an update on this - it seems if you take the rubber flap off the right hand side ofthe radiator, the cold air REALLY does help matters. I went a step further and pulled the small piece of foam under the back right hand side of the hood out to get some cross ventalation going, and I must say, that cruising up the road at 55-60 mph, the truck will pull hills now in 5th at a little less than half peddle that it wouldn't pull acceptably at all before (read it wouldn't stay over 50) in 5th. Since the heat shield provides pretty good protection tot he filter element, I don't think I'm real concerned about road water getting in the intake.
