Subject: Converison, am i crazy? IP: Logged
Message: Ok, this sounds crazy, but what if i was to buy a 4 banger, cheap, and throw the KRC performance longblock in? I would need the block, M1 Intake, headers, ignition, mopar performance pcm, exhaust, springs for the heavy engine and what else? The transmition would have to be a automatic, would i have to rob one from an R/T?
Would it be cheaper to start w/ the R/T?
I've got it bad....R/T Envy

Message: If I was going to do this starting with a 4-cyl truck I would go with a carb on an M1 and use a full MSD ignition and rewire the truck with a Painless wiring harness. While you're doing this you can ditch all the extra wiring , air bags and all extra weight you can get out of it. Also use a 727 with a good converter and manual valve body and build up a 9 1/4 or and 8 3/4 if you don't mind having 2 different bolt patterns on yhe truck. Another good idea would be to put in a fuel cell over the rear axle and relocate the battery to the same location. If you can get it to hook it will haul ass , I know of a 3600# street car with a 10.8 comp 408/727 4,800 stall/4.56 Dana and it runs on pump gas and turns 11.20's@122mph on 31x10.5W M/T slicks and has seen 10.60's@128mph on a mild 125hp shot. If you start with a '97-'98 model RC 4 cyl truck you could build this for about what a new R/T costs.

Message: You'd have to weld in motor mounts, etc. It would be easier to make a friend at a dealership. Next time someone comes in with a blown V8 and they can't afford to replace it, offer them a few bucks for the truck and put that longblock in. I know a few people that do that, they get rustfree, low milage vehicles for $500 then put in a junkyard motor and drive it for 10 years.

Message: I know that a carb would be easier, but i want the HP of fuel injected. I would perfer to have the motor mounts in, but its a matter of getting a RC truck.
Jon, that is a good idea, have to look into it.
I live in denver and 98% of the dakotas around are 4x4s (like my current dak).
I would love to have a stickshift in it, anyone know of a tranny that could handle it?
The diff and rear axil setup is something that needs some r&d...i was hopeing to extend the wheel tubs and shorten the axel so that i can fit WIDE tires in the back (hopeing for 15x15 at the most. i may have to go w/ 15x21.5).
Also hopeing to have a beutifull coil setup like greg (intense39).
thoughts?
