Message: I am looking to buy a used 97-00 Dakota 4x4 with a V-8. I will tow about a 3,000lb boat. What are the advantages/disadvantages for these two motors?

Message: The 4.7 has good torque if you leave the exhaust alone. I pull a trailer of lawnmowers around with mine (it probly weighs something like 2k lbs) on some pretty steep hills and it does fine. It may not quite be up to where the pushrod engines are on torque, but it isn't the slouch some people make it out to be. I also get around 17-18 MPG pulling.
