Subject: how do I get my 4.7 in 13-14 sec range?
IP: Logged

Message:
I have a 2002 Dakota with a 4.7L 5-speed, 3.55 antispin, a gibson cat-back duals rear exit, cold air intake, poweraid TB spacer and I polished the factory TB. I am in the 14.7-14.9 second range. What else do I have to do to be pre 14 sec 1/4 mile times? What will getting the computer reflashed do for me?

First you have to run a search for "Recipe for 14-sec times from your 4.7"......

There's about 30 threads here already.

Then you can start asking questions.

after you read through the posts go and order you up a NX kit and be done with it. Instant 13's in with a 100 shot in your dakota.

Buy you the Kenne Bell Supercharger. Should shave off at least 1 sec. on your time, maybe more. Around $4,000 though. But it's there all the time when you need it, and street legal. Just another thought.

HO cams, 4.10's or 4.56's, ported heads...you
should be low 14's, if not high 13's by then.
dont go with a 100 shot of NOS, unless you
want to cause damage. I think the only "safe"
amount to use would be 30-50 shot, and you
will easily be in the 13's. Oh yeah, pick up a
set of slicks...and maybe get your PCM
reprogrammed.

I disagree with you D, a 100 shot is very safe. Its only unsafe when you get careless and start ignoring the proper precautions.

I did, however, speak with Marty over at KRC
Performance and, after spending about 1/2 an
hour with him, I am leaning towards staying
away from the nitrous on the 4.7L...not just
because of the piston ring issue, but also
because of the design of the cams, valvetrain,
and intake material.

One thing that does makes me wonder about
how much of an issue the ring location
actually is...is the fact that Kenne Bell makes a
Supercharger kit (8# boost) and the cylinder
pressure (and temp) is about the same with
the blower, at that boost level, as with the
nitrous. They've been having pretty good
success with the blower, so my opinion on the
nitrous system would not to go over a 75HP
shot, run it with one heat range colder plugs
(gapped .005" smaller), and run the engine
with a quality synthetic oil to help out with the
heat.

---50 shot should be safe ; ) 100 is pushing it.
