Subject: Engine Temp IP: Logged
Message: I recently purchased a 99 Dakota Sport with the 5.2 engine. This is my first truck, all of my other cars were little japanese cars where the engine temp never changed. I am noticing frequent fluxuation of the engine temp (between 185-210, depending on if I have the A/C on or not) After the truck has been turned on a couple times during the day, the temp normally goes up to about 205 and stays there, sometimes gets a little hotter then comes back down. Is this normal? I am looking at installing a 180 t-stat to keep the temp down. I live in Reno, NV where temps today were about 105 degrees. Let me know, thanks!

Message: The temp will change a little, but not that much. Sounds like you have a stuck T-stat, or a clogged radiator. Since your looking at doing the T-stat anyway, do it first. If it doesn't fix it, get the radiator checked out.
