Message: Glen I see you have close to the same mods as I do on my 4.7L Dak and was wondering if you've had a chance to get some 1/4 mile times with your truck? I've been to the track twice with mine and 14.7 was the best time I've gotten. That was on a nice cool night last year when it was like 70* or so outside, and I was happy with the run. I'm 4WD and have the 5 speed with 3.92 rear though. If your 2WD, I would guess your prob. running low to mid 14's.
I love the supercharger and have had it on for a year and a half with close to 20,000 mi. put on it without a single prob. I've heard that some people have had problems with the auto trans. and the SC, have you?

Message: Yuck, depending on your credit rating, most of the time you will get a better deal from a credit card. I know CapitalOne has a fixed 8.9 APR that's pretty easy to get for most people. Personal loans are around 14.something last time I looked. If you have a decent credit history go with the credit card. My credit history is awesome, but less than a year old, so I can't get any credit cards under %14.. :(

Message: Hey Man,
If you plan on keeping your truck for a long while, then don't mess with superchargers or turbochargers. They all make big power improvements, but the engine wasn't designed for the forced induction. You'd be better off trying to find a mopar supercharger. The best possible performance you can do is get your heads ported and polished. That'll give you more hp, more torque, quicker acceleration, everything good. And the best part is it doesnt mess with your engine. Just a thought for you.

dont think so. heads ported/polished + super
charger, now you're talkin.
BTW, I am seriously thinkin about the loan, I
could probably pay it off in 6 months with this
new job....
the Dodgers are offering this new credit card,
my friend got it with 6.9% financing for 24
months, then 9% fixed....with a $6,000 limit.
hell, if I blow the motor with a supercharger, I'll
just pul off the supercharger and take it in for
warranty work ; )

And I didnt say that heads would give you 90 hp, I just think its a good thing to do and it wont mess up your motor. A buddy of mine (94 gt mustang) the ONLY mod he had was heads ported and polished, it took a full second off his quarter mile time. Will a supercharger do that?

Message: Harvey, I'm pretty sure that Mopar doesn't make a SC for our trucks. LOL A supercharger will take on average 1 - 1&1/2 sec. off your 1/4 mile time, depending on what other mods you may have/ or may not have allready done. Just because your buddy's Mustang GT had a full sec. benifit from head porting and polishing doesn't necessarily mean the Dodge Dakota will resopond the same way.
Don't get me wrong, I think that porting and polishing your heads can be a good way to get some extra HP out of these engines, but it's not going to be comparable to as much as a SC.
I think that running a Supercharger at the recommended boost levels and doing like the manufacturer suggests for maintaince and upkeep will make for a very safe and reliable way to make some awesome gains. Like allways using the higher octaine gas, checking/changing the oil levels in the SC regularly, ect. I've had zero problems from my Kenne Bell, had it on for over a year and a half and almost 20,000 mi. Believe me I don't baby the truck either, I see boost daily!
I'm not trying to flame you Harvey, just throwing in my two cents worth.

Message: Its all good man. I didnt really do any research on the mopar thing, just saying (I would take a trd supercharger for a tacoma over another company, trd messes around with toy engines more, I think they have the most experience). I have heard that when it rolls around to 80-90,000 miles, it'll start acting up.
I also wasnt expecting a dak to loose a full second, but it is the same principle. Good hp gains, without messing with the engine. Friend of mine has a Lightning and the day after he bought it he supercharged it. He does baby his truck, does everything for it to keep it running well, and now its being fussy. He has had it for about 6 years. Just a thought.

Message: actually harvey, my brother in law recently
installed a TRD charger on his 01 S-runner...
he has had some real bad problems with
pinging, he called TRD, and they said the only
way to get rid of it was to get a $1300 fuel
system upgrade and a smaller (11lb) pulley.
So now instead of the initial cost of $3000, his
charger is gonna eventually cost him over
$4000....yeah TRD plays around with the toy
engines, thats why toyota warranties the truck
with their supercharger installed, but so do
most companies. If you supercharge your
truck, and something breaks, its covered
under warranty as long as the supercharger
had no effect on the part that failed.
so far, I havent heard anything bad from
people using the kenne bell setup on their
4.7's, which is a lot more than what can be
said about people running TRD
superchargers on their tacoma.

Message: D, i know you are a little familiar with the S-runner. if im not mistaking, they come with 6#'s of boost from the factory. how did toyota get them to run at 6#'s, but if someone (like your brother in law) wanted to add one to their NA taco, they have to go to a 11# pulley?
does the S-runner have lower compression?
also, does the TRD unit just pump up the fuel pressure like the powerdyne, or does it have aux. injectors?

Message: the S-runners came N/A from the factory, the
TRD package was an option that the factory
can install, and still remain under the regular
warranty. It's kinda funny that the trucks fuel
system cant even handle the 6lb pulley that
comes with the supercharger... his rear end
couldnt handle it either at the track a couple of
weeks ago, I think his lowering blocks
exploded (AIM blocks) they said they were
aluminum when he bought them, but were
some kind of metal compound.
I dont really know much about his truck, except
that he is pissed that it wont run "to his liking"
with the 6lb pulley. It's not really that fast for a
supercharged truck, especially for how light it
is... I think he is 4 or 5 tenths faster than me in
the 1/8th, and I have nothing on my truck. I
borrowed his truck for a couple days, and only
noticed the pinging in 5th gear at low RPM's
(freeway) So I dont think that its that big of a
deal.
I believe the TRD has auxilary injectors, but I
am not positive. I think he told me that part of
the fuel system upgrade was to switch to 30#
fuel injectors. I am pretty much clueless when
it comes to superchargers, which is part of the
reason that I ask so many friggin questions
about them.
hopefully, when I get these cams, LS/gears
and manifold installed, I will be running mid to
low 9's in the 1/8th ; ) then he has no choice
but to switch to an 11lb pulley.

look at the lotus elise. it only has like 140 hp, but runs 13's because it weighs about 1300 lbs
on the other hand, you could have a 500 CID engine in a 76 eldorado, and run 17's all day long while getting 9 mpg.

haha, damn straight (and no pun intended)!
nuckenfuts, have you ever actually DONE an engine swap. Hell yeah is it cool and a great bang for the buck, but damn is it a lot of work. There are so many things that can easily go wrong, be overlooked, and 'specially are unexpected. Things you never even considered, WHAM! they hit you in the face. If you have the time and a shop to do it, I say go for it, but most people do not have either of those. When you have to start buying enough tools to fill Sears, it chews holes in the pocket book.
I notice you like to play devil's advocate on the forum, and you criticize very well, but you never have a solution or reasoning behind anything you say.
