Subject: Brake upgrades available??
IP: Logged

Message:
I love my new truck!!!
'02 RC Sport Atlantic Blue Pearl-4.7L/5spd 3.92/lsd with HD package and Tire and handling upgrade.

However, I have one thing that I wish was a little better... THE BRAKES!!!!

I have read about the powerslot rotors that some have spoken of, and I would like to know if these shorten the distance to stop from say 60 or higher, because that is where I need better brakes. Plus, just replacing the rotors wouldn't seem to be an incredibly expensive swap. Cheap is good!!
I read a post earlier about the Raybestos Ceramic pads for our trucks and that they don't throw a lot of dust and stop well; this would be what I would want in a good brake pad replacement. Also, does anyone offer a better caliper that is affordable? I have seen the new Stillen calipers for the full size DODGE trucks, but not a listing for our Dakotas.

So, powerslot rotors and Raybestos Ceramic pads would be a good combination for the front brakes if not wanting/available/affordable to upgrade the calipers?? Are these quiet like stock, or do they squeek badly?? Any extra noise using these non-stock parts??

I have also read that the rear drums are pretty lacking on our trucks, is this true?

Is a better drum available? what about a disc brake upgrade for the rear? Do any Durangos come with rear discs? Possible swap here? I dunno, but I know that the brakes leave a little to be desired when pressed at higher speeds(50+), requiring that engine-braking by down-shifting be used to stop decently at all times.

BTW- the new Hot Rod has the new HEMI RAM in it and guess what? They busted the rearend in it.... and they replaced it with a brand new similar unit.... DURHHH!!! Why not use a good-ole Dana 60 under it and be done with all the BS?

Thanks for any tips and all the help!!!

Later,
Ryan

Wait ans see what the new 2003 Dakotas get for an option, four wheel disc with I beleive a bigger front rotor. I don't know how well they will swap onto an older truck and how it will effect the abs system but they look promising.

Ok, thanks for the word Man!!!

Factory is good sometimes, huh?

I just hope they keep the same spindles or at least some of the parts will interchange without a complete swapout from the control arms out...

Thanks!
Ryan
