How do you remove the clutch fan on the 4.7 motor??? Do you take the BIG nut loose; if so is it a normal tread, or backwards? Also how do you hold the pully still to undo the nut.

2000 cc 4.7

CB, I have pulled my clutch-driven fan off of my 4.7 also. The threading is normal, right-hand. The nut is attached to the fan. Find the appropriate wrench for the nut (I can't remember) and a spanner wrench. The spanner will fit into holes on the pulley. Hold the spanner wrench and turn the nut loose, it really isn't that tight. I cut the bottom half of a film canister off to cover the exposed threads. It fits perfect. I assume you have the HD engine-cooling with the electric fan? Going to get a 180 degree thermostat?

Thanks! Just removed it tonight. I had to invent my own holder, but it was not that tight. Will be installing the 180 thermostat and rewiring the fan on the 4th. Also, does the thermostat housing have a gasket?

CB, yes the housing has a reusable gasket. How are you rewiring the fan? It should kick on with the A/C and when the coolant temp. reaches about 205-210 degrees. Going to put in a manual switch for the fan?

Yea, I am planning on putting a manual switch which will trip the relay in the main countrol box under the hood. That way even if I have it in the off position it will come on as normal when the A/C comes on, or if the truck get too hot and I do not have the switch on. Basically I want to be able to run the fan at the track to cool the truck down before a run.

Back to the gasket; it is reusable, so I will not need a new one? Is it like an o-ring?

And thanks for the info!

you will have to notch the new thermostat for
the stock gasket to fit, the gasket is reusable.

All good/correct advice.

The O-ring (gasket) is white, fits around both sides of the t-stat. When you carefully take the original one off, you'll see. Be sure to put the tab on the outside of the o-ring into the recessed area on the housing. The housing is plastic, the bolts are 8mm, don't tighten too tight!\

If it's made in Warren Mich., why's it metric?
