Subject: Installed Fastman TB...???? IP: Logged
Message: Just installed my 68mm FM TB over the weekend on my 2000 4.7. It's been 250 miles since install. I am no mechanic. I am learning and my truck hasn't suffered any ill effects...yet. How do I tell if it's really giving me extra performance?? I think it is but that could be the "new part excitement" and not actual performance. What have you other Fastman owners noticed??? What convinced you without a doubt it was better?? I also have a rattle from the engine I never heard before. I am using same gas, 87 octane, as before. Other mods are IP Z Tube, Flowmaster muffler,Autolite 3923s. Thanks!!

Message: After you reset the PCM, it should take the 4.7L about 200-300 miles (minimum) to learn all the adaptives (fuel, timing, idle). As for the pinging...did you change fuel, have a vacuum leak (throttle body seal), or change anything else (besides the intake, TB, and plugs)? The intake, TB, and colder plugs are not a normal cause for pinging unless you have a vacuum leak (did you reconnect the vacuum tube on the driver side of the TB).

Message: Bernd, Yes I did replace and I double checked the vacuum connection. Same gas same station. I only noticed the pinging when I romped on it. But never noticed it before during rompage. I don't romp on it very much. Dan told me it would probably run rich until pcm settled in. Could that cause ping? I guess what I was looking for is someone that noticed when the pcm learned the new variables that they said DAMN there it is!!! Will the increased performance be overwhelmingly obvious to a non-mechanic such as myself?

Message: I have the same TB as you. It took a little while for the PCM to learn the changes (a little over 200miles) but when it did the change was very obvious. I gained alot in the low end over what I had before. The change won't be overwhelming though for a TB doesn't produce overwhelming gobs of power anyhow. I gained about 1mpg as well.
