Subject: Dyno results - 4.7L QC Sleeper Project IP: Logged
Message: hey guys, got back from the dyno and figured i owed it to everyone to post the results :)
first, here are the current mods:
1. IP Z-tube, 3" with a 7" S&B Big Mouth
2. custom cat-back, stock 2 1/2" pipe from cat to muffler, Flowmaster 50 series Delta Flow w/ dual 2 1/4" rear exit, 3" chrome slash tips
3. removed flap near radiator
everything else is bone-stock, from plugs to t-stat to everything else...
the numbers are a bit skewed as they hit the speed limiter in 3rd gear so they had to run 2nd gear pulls. these results are from a DynoJet, at Speedtek in Dallas. dyno had just been calibrated, first pull of the day. it had a full tank of regular 87 octane pump gas from Albertons (a grocery store).
dynorun 001 - 212.4 rwhp / 285.4 tq @ 4150 rpm (this is the first pull where it cut out)
dynorun 002 - 207.4 rwhp / 260.5 tq @ 4900 rpm (2nd gear pull)
dynorun 003 - 202.8 rwhp / 258.8 tq @ 4850 rpm (2nd gear pull)
average is 207.5 rwhp / 268.2 tq !!!
the guys that were running the dyno said the 2nd gear pulls normally average about 7-10 hp less than a full 3rd gear pull. if this is correct, the numbers would be about 210 rwhp and ~280 tq, not too shabby at all <insert big grin here> :D
needless to say, i am quite happy with the results. a gain of at least 17 RWHP from stock by only adding a new intake and opening up the exhaust is a great payoff.
i'll be scanning and posting the print-out on my website once i have some more time.

Message: CRM,
Is that a 5 speed or an auto? This sounds a lot like mine except I have the Kenne Bell Optimizer II PCM reflash and Robert Shaw 180 deg t-stat. I've also removed the 3rd cat and put the 3" pipe from the y-pipe bach to the Flowmaster and 3" to the side in front of the right rear tire.
I've also lowered mine and put on a tannue cover.

Message: Adam,
Mine is a 2k2 and has only 4381 miles as of 7 pm. I sent the PCM to KB 4 days after the truck arrived here in Germany. As long as the speed limiter shuts you off at 115 or 108 they will reflash it if it shuts you off at 98 mph forget it. it made 30 hp on the dyno and gave the truck some great throttle response.:)
Have Fun!

Message: Adam,
Oh yea it also raised the top speed to 135 mph and with the Pirelli Scorpion Zeros 275/60-16's adding 4 more mph to the top end it goes 139 mph.

Message: i'll have to check to make sure when i go again in 2 weeks. gotta test out the Fastman TB i installed after getting it dyno-ed.
the guy running the dyno mentioned something about 110 but i "corrected" him and said it was prolly 98. so, i'll have him run a test in 3rd and see where it stops. it only got to ~4200 rpm before it cut out so i know it wasnt the rev limiter.

Message: Adam,
Mine was 115 mph. I know this for a fact, i had to go 355 miles to pick upmy truck when it came into the port here in Germany. On the way back i broke it in bangin off the speed limiter, and cursing it all the way. As far as pure acceleration it could stay right with all these hipriced BMer's and Mercedes and Audies but just lurched to nearly stop when it hit 115.
Have Fun,
Lynn

Message: well, i hope mine is the same. i had thought it was 98 based on different sources but i sure hope i'm wrong.
good to hear some very positive things about the KB flash. i dont have a whole lotta area to run 100mph+ around here, but it would be cool to get a full dyno reading in 3rd :) plus, you can fault the extra 20-30 horses.
on second thought, the dealer that is gonna install my HO cams and intake might be cool enough to remove the limiter for me. who knows, might just have to be without the truck for a few days to get some sort of flash. but all this stuff costs money, gotta space everything out :)

Message: thanks Duner! i wish i coulda got 3 full 3rd gear pulls cuz that 212 is looking very tasty. but, i'll be satisfied knowing it had a handicap going into it...
now i just need to fix the pedal vibration with the new TB :(

Message: update: the speed limiter is definitely set at 98 :( found a semi-empty stretch of highway last night and hit it all too easily...
does this mean KB wont move it up if i had them flash it? not looking for anything too obscene, maybe like 110 or so. guess until i get a workaround for that i'll need to do the "turn the key" trick on the dyno...

Message: I think you may be able to get ASE to move it up for you. You can get them to make specific changes to your PCM from what I understand. You should shoot them an e-mail.

Message: well, i've thought about that too, but i just dont know if they have enough other gains to offer to make it worth it. from the dyno results i've seen from guys running ASE chips, it's not much of a gain. but, i'll keep that in mind if the KB flash isnt gonna work out.
i could also see if the dealer thats gonna install my cams/intake could do that for me...

Message: Crm- impressive results indeed! I like your exhaust setup. Exactly which muffler did you go with the 50 series delta flow or the 50 series suv? 4 inch or 5 inch? Maybe the part # would be the best answer?

Message: dave, those dyno numbers are the first ones i have. i didnt get it done before the exhaust and intake mods cuz i figured i'd just use the normal 235 minus 20%. and about KB, i've heard a couple times that they wont mess with a 98mph limiter. havent checked with them personally, just what i've seen around the boards.
