Guys I have 2001 RC Dodge Dakota Sport+, and its got the 3.92 corprate 9.25 rear, Its open-trac though so only one tire (right side) pulls, what would it take to convert this to a posi-trac type rear where it would be limited slip? Will the R/T Trac-loc unit work in this? Guys if anyone has the answer please reply with part numbers and discriptions of everything I will need! Im gonna have a local speed shop install them but Im gonna buy everything firsthand myself. Please include everything for a posi unit install. Also I have rear antilock breaks will changing this to posi mess with that? Thank You!
Seth

Funny thing is that I am about to do the same thing to my 2000 SLT 4.7 RC. I believe and I hope someone more educated in the matter (CW) chimes in, but the trac-loc unit should just replace the existing spider gear cluster you currently have. I have read numerous directions on the net about the install and it seems very simple. The cross pin and clips should be able to be reused. I am replacing my clips just because of the milage on the truck. Search the web for (9.25 lsd install) and you should come up with some useful info. Good luck and please if anyone has any specific info please post away:)

I just bought the sure grip (auburn gear)
limited slip through the friendly dodge dealer..
looks like I'm gonna have to pull the gears
and everything to install it, but this setup is the
same as the R/T's, and its pretty much the
same price as the trak lok, unless you
swindle a deal ; )

so, yes, you can convert to an R/T limited slip.

the R/T's sure grip isn't as stout a differential as the Trac-Lok. My 00 orginally had an open rear w/ 3.55 gears. At 30k I put in my Trac-Lok and its so stiff at times the inside tire chirps around corners. I got mine from my half brother for cheap since he ran a dealership but they aren't too pricey I dont think. Gotta get the chrome diff cover!

4.7RC,
Did you have to remove the Ring gear to do the install? If so was there any shimming involved or is that just for the pinion gear?
Thanks,

yes you have to remove the gears, I reused the orginal 3.55's w/ 30k miles on them and no noise and now i've got 45k. The Trac-Lok is a tough differential. I did put all new seals in it since I had the rear out.

my MAIN question is this : how much force was needed to remove the inner axle bearings off your differential? i intend on doing a swap in my 2004 reg cab 4.7 slt this coming weekend. i have the dana spicer trak lock on my bench. its part #80754. the stock open rear end is lame in a truck with this kind of power. i also am wondering will i be needing shims?
