I have a 98 RT and while I was driving to work this morning, I noticed after a several hundred feet that my tranny was staying in gear a little longer than it should. I thought this was no big deal since I live on the coast in Northern California and it was a pretty cold and foggy morning. Then when I accelerated onto the highway, my check engine light came on it never shifted into fourth. My OD is completely gone. Anyone know what happened and how I could fix it? Thanks in advance.

Try the off on off on ignition test to show you the code for the check engine light. After getting the codes you could always try and reset the PCM by removing the batter terminal then turning your ignition on to deplete any stored up energy holding the memory. But it sounds more like a mechanical problem in the tranny.

Well it turned out to be a fried Jet Chip. I don’t know if it was a Stage I or II because it was on the truck when I bought it. I bought it two months ago with only 5300 miles on it and now it has 7500 miles on it. The previous owner said he installed it right after he got the truck which would make the chip about 4 years old. My butt dyno tells me that I’ve lost some power and the tires don’t seem to break loose as easily as when the chip was working but I’m definitely not going to replace it. I’m going back and forth between getting a Mopar computer or getting my stock one flashed after I get my 1.7 RRs and M1. My headers should be here any day now. Currently the mods on my truck are a K&N GenII, F&B 50mm, Accel Supercoil, Permacool electric fan, March pullies and a shorter belt bypassing the A/C compressor. Just glad to have my 4th gear back and the check engine light off again.
