Subject: Shifting problems - need some input

Message:
Hey all, I have a 1999 R/T reg cab and I just put some Mopar headers on it a few months ago. Since then, I noticed when I floor it, it won't make the shifts. It just bounces off the end of the redline (rev limiter) and will only shift if I let off the gas a bit and then go back on. This really sucks for the strip! I tried playing with the TV-cable and got it a little better, but was wondering, is this something that the Mopar PCM would fix? Has anyone else had this or a similar problem and know how to fix it? I assume that the headers are throwing the stock shifting point off? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Join the club, your tranny valve body has too high of pressure that causes it not to shift. Only way I was able to fix is keep adjusting the TV cable until it does shift. Also check to see if the cable still has the spring that recoils the cable. I think it's a 46RE problem that Dodge need to address.. F.Y.I adjusting the TV can also cause pre advance shift which sucks. I'm living with it, mine shift to early at light throttle somtimes but always shift now. Another fix could be to replace your Valve body from SpeedTweaks in Austin. Not cheap but it's not $1k+ in reparing the whole tranny.

Well I have been playing with the TV cable this weekend... tonight I found a spot where under light acceleration it will shift at 2500rpm and a little firm... under medium acceleration it's a smoother shift... and under full accel it makes a nice smooth shift and doesn't redline anymore. Only thing that concerns me is that it shifts a little rough under light acceleration. Not uncomfortable rough, but rougher then stock. Is this hard on the tranny at all?

How do TSB's work for when the truck is out of warranty?

I have an extended warranty through another company on the engine and powertrain only.

A TSB has nothing to do with warranty, Its just
a bulletin to address a pattern problem. Bring
it to your favorite shop for an estimate.

My trans keeps downshifting when I go up a hill and my cruise is on. Even a slight hill. I just drove to Florida and couldn't use my cruise 75% of the time. I have a 01 QC, 4.7, homebrew intake, magnaflow muffler and 3923's, any ideas.

I'm having this same trouble now while it's under warrenty. They have replaced the senors in teh valve body and yet it still does it.

Now they are saying it is a normal function of the transmission. It was not this way when I bought it, and they won't fix it.

I can't bieleve Chrysler won't stand behind their product. This will be the last product from them I own.

I hate to break it to you , Chris, but the other manufacturers aren't generally any better... wish it was different, but it doesn't seem anyone wants to stand behind their product. The particular service advisor/manager you work with makes more difference, in my experience, than which manufacturer made the vehicle. Some people are good, most aren't. Once again, this is just my experience (based on 25 years of dealing with service departments).
