Subject: TPS Sensor IP: Logged
Message: I adjust my TPS sensor last night. I drilled out the brass inserts and reinstalled it and then adjusted it (by moving left and right) to get the optimal voltage .7 Well, the most I could get this thing to do was .485 Is this common, or is something else wrong? Maybe a new TPS sensor altogether?

Message: I just did mine a week ago, and I accidentally turned it as far as .8+ before I got the final adjustment dialed in. What was the factory reading you got before trying the mod? I would recommend rechecking your connection to the middle wire to see if you are getting a good reading. Otherwise, if your stock reading was lower than .485 and you cant get it to go any higher, you may want to check out another sensor.

Message: You are turning this in the right direction aren't you? Mine read about what yours does before I adjusted it. I can turn mine all the way to .9 something, but you get a MIL light if you take it to far. It also idles too fast. I have mine set at .765 and it works fine. Check your voltage again, and make sure you poke through the wiring insulation to get a good read. Hope this helps.

Message: Be sure your meter is on a good ground. Mine read .68v on a fluke meter. The meter you use could make a difference too.

Message: what exactly does adjusting it to .7v do for the engine? Is it somewhat like the IAT relocation?
anyone know where there are some good instructions on doin this procedure?

Message: When i went to adjust mine i got lucky and it was at .69v so i left it alone. Or rather i should say i was unlucky because i didn't get any free performance gain.

Message: I've been using a good lead from the middle wire, and a negative straight from the battery. Adjusting the sensor counterclockwise increases my voltage, only to .485. Clockwise just decreases it. Is it possible that the sensor is just bad?

Message: Thrush...
connecting directly to battery may be your problem. I adjusted the TPS on my '02 4.7L and used the center wire as the positive and the wire closest to the firewall as the negative (if I remember correctly). Mine initially read .4 volts, and after removing the steel bushing I got it to .69 Volts. If you get any play in the sensor you should get some change in voltage.
Doing this really did improve my throttle response.
