Subject: My Temporary Fix for 4.7/70mm TB Squeal IP: Logged
Message: As mentioned, I have one of the first 70mm TBs that were offered to the group, with a 4 inch Z-Tube and 9 inch Pro-Flow filter.
I had that annoying, embarrassing TB squeal everytime I hit or left off the gas, or the auto-tranny shifted.
I've made the squeal go away but feel it may only be temporary:
I took the Z-tube off, sprayed the the TB opening with WD-40, opend the blade and sprayed more WD-40 around both sides of it, sprayed all the linkage, dried the excess WD-40 up, and then with a lot of pressure, waxed the inside of the TB and both ends of the Z-tube.
I then put the Z-tube back on but instead of having a perfect snug fit on the filter end, angled the filter down and a bit closer to the pax side of the engine (matches up perfect with the hole where the rubber flap has been removed) and tightened the hell out of the blue coupler.
Started her up (engine didn't like the left over WD40 residue in the TB at all), and drove her like I stole it...
The squealing is not completly gone, but greatly diminished, can now only faintly hear it when letting off the gas...would like to think I'm getting a little more umph also, what with the filter now pointing directly at the hole in the grill.
Anyone know if the new TBs have thicker blades or some other fix that stops the squealing and is this only a issue when using a 4 inch Z-Tube?
Thanks...

When you hook up the z-tube how close are you to the IAC hole at the bottom of the TB?
If you block that hole any you will get a squeal or tea pot whisle.

Message: Yes, the New TB's have thicker blades, and the noise is only a problem with the Z-tube or other home brew kits that replace the factory airhat.

Message: Re: the IAC teardrop shape hole, I have a 4 inch Z-tube mating to the 4 inch opening of the 70mm TB, the Z-tube shouldn't be covering up that hole at all as far as I know.
Not sure how much flex there is though, with the blue coupler being used, but I don't think this comes into play either.
The squeal is slowing coming back but still not as loud as before.
Anyone have the new K&N FIPK with 70mm TB installed yet? If so, any squealing?
BTW, I re-adjusted the filter end again: to point down and center of the hole in the grill, yet this moves it closer to the engine...haven't driven since to see if the 'harmonics' have changed and what this does to the squealing or seat of the pants feel in more umph due to more air being pulled in.
