black 2002 4.7 dak at the lights last night looked like a week old brand spanking new truck he started inching to the line hehehe he had a grin from ear to ear so i say to my self ok its 1 am time for sum fun so i switch my AC off lights turns green and we left at the same time from 0 to 10 we were neck n neck then i look in my rear mirror he was way back there devouring all my dust at the next light baut 1/4 mile he rolls dawn his window and asks if i had a 5.9 i say yea ..then i asked if he had the V6 he said 4.7 V8 i could see depression setting in and the grin is wiped off his face hehehehehehehehheheahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhohohohohohohoh
4.7 OHC crap what a joke
same mileage and price as the 360 but with less HP hahahahahhahahahahahaaaaaaaaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Somebody get this guy out of here. Same milage? same price?? hahahaha...
I drive a 4.7 and raced a 5.9 at the track. I hit the 1/4 in 15.25 and he clocked in at like 15.8. Driver is everything and the one you raced in the 4.7 must have not been the best just like the 5.9 guy i raced wasn't that great.

Come on guys...he just forgot to mention that the 4.7 was a quad cab 4x4 with a body lift, 33's @15lbs each (just finished wheelin'), AC running, full tank of gas, six dudes in the cab, and 8 racks of coors light under the Canopy. ; ) Oh, and his air-filter was mud-logged.

I've raced a few R/T's in my '02 4.7L CC, and I've beaten more than half of them. I haven't run at the track yet though, so my times I can only estimate. I know I've got a mutant on my hands b/c my truck makes more power than it should, and I've only got a K&N drop in and true dual exhaust with the third cat removed. No problems, and it gets better gas mileage than it's supposed to (over 17mpg City and 21.5-22mpg Highway). I'm definitely happy with my truck, even though it's mostly stock.

Pulled up to an R/T last night and reve'd the engine to get the guys attention. He looks over and see's I have a CC 4x4 with 33" tires and laughs. I put it into 4wheel high and as the light turs green I bolt out while the R/T spins. By the time I reach 115 mph (my rev limiter) I am a block ahead.
BTW. My truck is completly stock with a 4.7L and 3.92's and I also get around in the snow.
5.9 RT's what a joke!!

01, QC, 4.7, 5spd, lsd, Redneck sewer pipes on the intake, took off the rubber(after she told me to), Ported TB, NO stink'n belt driven fan!, Iat adjuster, 180tstat, Mobil 1, tire and handlin pack, etc. etc.

yeah I almost forgot I pulled up next to a powerdyne blown regular cab R/T with Mickey ET streets and a 4000rpm stall. He saw me in my dad's bone stock 4x4 QC 4.7 auto and laughed. Yeah once we hit 100mph he just gave up since he couldn't fill the train lengths i put on him. Its a true story I promise...

Both motors have their plus and minuses, but here are some hard numbers from the strip. This is between two Durangos, one a 5.9 and one a 4.7 with similar mods (IP intake, cold air on the 5.9, Fastman TB's, flow through exhausts.) Only other difference is the 5.9 had headers. For the 1/4 mile the 5.9 was consistantly .15 seconds faster than the 4.7 and 1.5 mph faster. This all equaled about 1 car length. We both agreed, where the 4.7 lost out was on the soft shifts of the transmission. Everytime my 4.7 shifted, the 5.9 pulled ahead a little bit. This was especially bad in 3-4 and 4-5 (at the very end). Hopefully I will be installing the HO cams soon and getting the shift kit when it is available for the 4.7. We will meet again at the drags and see what happens between the two again. We made 8 passes throughout the day and the numbers were the same each time (not actual numbers, but the 5.9 was consistantly about .15 sec. faster.

the 4.7 is better suited for a lighter vehicle. That extra torque of the 5.9 comes in handly when pulling more weight especially of a heavy durango.

If the dealer put it that way, I would probably be driving the 5.9 instead of the 4.7, but I opt out for the 4.7L because of the newer technology in the motor.

this ain't no casio watch Junior numbers dont lie look at the brochure less HP and torque with crapy gas mileage whers this new tech you talkin about???i agree with 5.9er my 2k 360ci sounds like a blown hemicuda 10 foot burnouts are no problem with my 3.92 posse rearend you then scratch a 4 footer second gear truck goes slightly sideways ohhhhh my god its like icing on the cake.......

Honda inspired? yeah thats funny considering americans were the ones to first utilize the OHC design back in the early 1900's with 4cyl motors and the heads on the 4.7 are semi-hemispherical. OHC has been around a very long time. Its the Japanese that got the ideas from us.

And even though i used to say "there is no
replacement for displacement"...i guess there
is. cuz i bought a 4.7.
there is nothing quite like banging through the
gears of a V8, chirping your way to the next
stop light, downshifting so hard that rear locks
up and of course blipping the throttle at every
ricer you see, just to see if you can remove his
girlfriends skirt.
