 Subject: coolant temp. curcuit

I just finnished putting in an M1 intake and in the process I broke the coolant temperature sending unit. I replaced it with a unit from napa. Everything with the truck seems to run good except I now have a check engine light and the coad says it's the coolant temperature curcuit. All I can figure is in refilling the coolant hasn't gotten to the sensor yet. Any ideas about this besides tape over the check engine light? By the way, it is a gen II and it is now running with a 180 thermostat.
