Subject: Help on 93 Dakota IP: Logged
Message: Hey everyone! I'm new here. I don't really have alot of knowledge about engines and performance for my 93 Dakota. I'm only 14, but I get to drive in two years. So, I want to go ahead and get my Dakota ready for when I drive it. It is a 1993 Dakota with a 5.2 V8 LE 2 wheel drive. Its got a little over 125,000 miles on it. I would like to know what I can do to make it run faster. I know I can put a chip in, but I dont know what kind is good or bad. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

Message: If you want to go the chip route I would recomend (and I think others also say the same) get the Mopar Proformance computer. Don't bother with the JET chip. Stay away from throttle body spacers. Put in a K&N and remove the baffle from the tube that runs too the airhat. All but the computer are cheap mods, if nothing else it's a start and if your new to engines it will get you into it a bit.

Message: Thanks Dave! What about exhaust and headers. Should I go with Borla or Flowmaster? Anything else that ya'll can think of to boost my trucks performace? Thanks again!

Message: I have JBA headers on my 94' so I am kind of partial. Mopar makes a good set from what i've heard as well.
Seems that exaust is all up to your personal taste. Everyone says one thing is better than another. I have a flowmaster catback setup converted from a 97 style. The borlas seem nice being stainless and all and the ones i've heard have a real agressive tone. I am fairly content with the sound of my flowmaster because it's not overly loud so I can sneak up on unsuspecting victims, i.e. those with coffee can exaust.
If it doesn't already have it think about putting in sure grip or other limited slip rear. If traction probloms are solved before you hit the road in it, it will be that much more fun.

Message: yesterday i cked my exhaust system on my 94 dak II and found all was solid but the muffler which shows signs of needing replacing. when i am ready to replace the muffler i will ask on board what muffler is best for stock replacement but so far have got all original equip and happy to have them. i dont do speed upgrades except i am looking into replaceing my cluthfan. i get reasonable gas mileage with my v6 and good performance so if it aint broke dont fix it :)

Message: If it's broke, fix it.
If it's not broke, fix it anyways.
If it brakes while your fixing it because it wasn't broken, swear and use ducttape!

Message: Shave and smooth your throttle body too. It's a free mod, something you can do with hacksaw and a grinding wheel, and when combined with a high flow air filter and a free-er flowing exhaust, really wakes these engines up.
