Hey everyone,
My name is Joey and I just purchased a silver 01 Dak R/T. I am a big Mopar head that started out helping my dad with his muscle cars and then we got big into the turbo mopars. Now I have this dak and I want to gain some knowledge about these awesome trucks. Being a gear head I of course want to upgrade the truck, nothing major just bolt ons. From what I have gathered from my research I should:
-install K&N FIPK(or comprable unit)
-install M1 manifold
-Upgrade TB
-install MP ECU (are they made for 01 R/Ts??)

Now some questions.
I read that the R/Ts already have the "cat back system" from the factory? And I have a dyno max muffler from the factory? So I don't need to worry about the exhaust from the cat back correct? If this is true then I just need to figure out how to get rid of all of those cats and install headers. I noticed that the pipes coming from the manifold to the precats are waaaaaaay tiny, is there anything that can be done with this?

Question 2:
What components are forged on the 5.9L. I know the pistons are cast but what about the crank/rods? I am spoiled from the turbo II 2.2L. The rods/cranks are forged and indistructable straight from good ole' Ma Mopar.

Is there a sight I can go to just to get the hard facts on the components on my truck? I am assuming that all R/Ts have the 3.92's and a sure grip?

Sorry if this is to many questions, I just want to learn as much as I can about this truck. I look forward to conversing with all of you and making her a real street terror.

Hey Joey,
I also have a '01 Silver R/T and love it. I have done a few "upgrades" to the truck to make it quite a bit faster than it originally was. You are on the right track with the K&N, TB, M1, and PCM. Unfortunately nobody makes a performance PCM for the '01-'02 so you are left with the custom flash. B&G Chrysler Specialists in Michigan have a flash for our PCM's that kicks ass. I just got mine about 2 weeks ago and it really woke up the truck.

The R/T's have a 3" tailpipe from the factory but the problem is it is 2.5" from the 3rd cat to the muffler and then 2.5" out. For some retarded reason, they made the muffler 2.5" out and then it steps up to 3" about 2" behind the muffler. To get rid of the precats, buy the Mopar Performance headers for a 2000 model year R/T and then get the dual katbox. It fools the PCM into thinking the precats are still there and working.

As far as I know, the 5.9L has nothing forged from the factory. I believe the bottom end on the 5.9 is pretty stout as I have not heard of anyone grenading the bottom end. There have been numerous people running 12's (Nitrous and blowers)on the stock bottom end without any problems.
