Message: Got everything buttoned up on the 4.7. Fab and install was easy. 2 90 degree elbows, rubber seal, 2' of 3"pipe, and a 9" cone K&N.
I went to the local hardware store, and purchased everything except the K&N.
Total at hardware store $20.49
I already had the K&N off of one of my old Mustangs.
I reset the computer, and have probably driven 50 miles. Butt dyno says little difference in the lower RPM's and a nice smooth pull in the upper RPM's. It sounds like there's a shop vac under the hood!hehehe
I will take it to the track tomorrow to see if there is any notible difference.
Has anybody installed a heat shield on their home-brews?

Message: I have the 4.7.
Stock air box/K&N drop in, with the homebrew intake. Removed the front elbow off the stock box. removed the rubber flap on the passenger side beside radiator.
Put a vinyl wall between the engine side from the radiator to the stock box. This allows ambient air to go straight to the air filter box, without much if any engine compartment hotter air. Works well.
01 QC 4.7 5spd LSd, Ported TB, homebrew air, IAT adj., no belt fan (best mod yet)

Message: Anthony,
Nice website!
I think you should have run a 90deg. fernco form the TB, (as I did).
'cause, the 90deg PVC has a much smaller turning radius, (tighter turn=more restrictive), the fernco 90 is a much larger/smoother 90deg.
The fernco 90, then to the straight PVC, then the rest looks great!

I think its time I upgraded to one of those new
fandangled 360 intakez deals...people think
its funny that I'm running pvc under the hood, I
tell them, whatever works, but the chrome
ones look so nice.

Message: Home Depot has air duct insulation that is basically 1" of fiberglass insulation with a foil covering. The foil deflects heat. Wrap it around your tubing & duct tape it or they also have a thinner foil/insulation material that wraps around like tape.

Message: Something with the family came up so I could not make it last night, but I will try to get out Sat., if not next Saturday.
Did anybody notice a difference at the track?
I know it will be next to nothing if any, but for $20 any will be something.
Today I made a heat shield for it. When I can get pics, I'll post them. It looks very similar to Anthony's. I painted it an aluminum color. Looks fairly decent, but you can still tell it's PVC.
Todd, I like the idea of using a 90 degree Fernco, I might cut mine and replace it...
Anybody homebrewing nitrous?
I wonder if I can get a Compucar Nitrous-in-a-bag kit to work on the truck..... Any ideas? They are set-up for any "MASS AIR" equipped vehicle, it shoots before the mass air sensor. It comes with 20HP-100HP jets. Installs in the Mustang in about 10 minutes. Neat set-up.
IDEAS?????

Finally got the pics together. Haven't made it to the track yet. Hopefully this Thursday?
Like the idea of the 90 degree Fernco, but the store doesn't carry them?

Message: notchlx,
Got my 90 deg. fernco at 'Lowe's', a store here in TX, carbon copy of Home Depot, they make 'em. Already has a stainless clamp to go right on the TB.

Message: notchlx,
just saw your pic, the 90 deg PVC you have at the filter look like a good, long bend. If it's the same at the TB, the fernco's about the same. The ones I've seen used are a much tighter bend.
