hey guys, the 00'mopar pcm went in my 01'ram on wednesday. the truck runs perfect,i now have 280 miles on it and no check engine lights.only brake and abs. i didnt notice much of a power gain at first but after putting some miles on it feels great. i would definitely recommend this mod if you have the right build date on your truck.

Hi Danny,
I was wondering if I could do the same thing on my 01 Dak R/T. It has a build date of 08/00. I wonder if a 00 Dak R/T ecu would work?

mopar joe, here is a link to moparchat that really covers the pcm issue in depth. it also covers the B&G flash also, and some of the realted problems associated with build dates. it turns out the big problem is with the o2 sensors.

to everyone following this tread:
Undoubtably manyof you are wondering whats this flashing the VIN stuff... Well what these dudes are doing is lying to their engines by installing different computers to run the engines. But the dealers ( I do the flashing at the one I work at) dont simply Flash the Vehicle Identification Number into the PCM (computer), it is completely reprogrammed for THAT vehicle, engine displacement, emissions, options EVERYTHING. In short it's returned to the state the PCM that was taken out was at. This is required by EPA REGULATIONS. so dont waste your time or money on this modification. Buy a programmer or "power chip" for your vehicle and take it from there. There are no magic fixes or "free lunches"... Just dumb shade tree mechanics...

I put a 360 crate motor in my 1998 Dakota which had the 318. There are people out there that can reflash a Dodge ECU with custom programs and VIN numbers. I have a 1999 360 RT reflashed with my VIN number and a stock RT flash. The crate motor has a cam an idles terrible with the stock RT program flash. I found a guy who has an inventory of flashes for motors of various builds used for drag racing applications approved by Dodge. I now have a flash from a perfomance motor which works fine. My only problem has been an electrical gremlin in the governor pressure generator which sees too much voltage (5.5 volts) which locks the transmission out of first gear. At over 5 volts the PCM interprets that as going over 60 mph. I turn the ignition switch off and on and it resets. I think it is a poor ground in the harness somewhwere because the transmission is newly rebuilt and the governor pressure generator switch is new also. The 360 crate motor is a lot of fun otherwise.
