Kris,
I just dropped a '98 5.9L into my '96 CC Sport with a 5 Spd. that had a 3.9L and it was not hard at all. Engine mounts and tranny bolts up perfectly. You will need to add two injector wires to the PCM loom and depending on whether you get an engine that was hooked upto a manual or automatic tranny will be an issue to deal with, but I have the info if you want it. Also get the correct PCM for the engine and tranny combination. One other thing I ran into is that in '98 Dodge did some changes to the oil pan on the 5.9L and there is a special pan to get to drop into the Dakota properly. If you want I can email you all the info I have put together on the swap I did.

Lesley,
I bought the complete engine with wiring harness and the computer that came with it for $1000. Then I stripped it and replaced the rod bearings and all of the gaskets and seals when I put it back together. Total cost with all parts and new duals with two cats run me right at $2800 when finished. It was money well spent as far as I am concerned. All the pulling power I want, quick response and right at 16MPG City and 18MPG Highway.

I know swapping a 91 3.9 for a 95 5.2 wasn't that hard. The only thing I had to do was beef up the suspension and get the right pcm.

Thanks jkk. $2800 US works out to around $4300 Canadian. Still cheaper than a turbo or supercharger.
