I have an R/T and Ive dumped 1000s into mine to free up HP and still cant into the 14s.

Message: Allright lazy ass, half the fun of owning this truck is actually having your own personality and creating a fast truck. If you want a lighting just put a supercharger on your r/t. There are guys running 12.9 1/4 mile times with some bolts ons and a 150 shot. It can be simple or you can design a truck that is just tricked out. I have fun with mine and it is much faster today then the day I bought it. Your only a few modes away from being happy. Anonymous - do you have a pcm, m1, headers, etc. those are the tools for speed, not just simple bolt ons.

Message: R/Truck is right. I have a buddy of mine that has a new Lightning. Now granted the truck is wicked and will do things that my Dakota only wishes it could do. What I'm getting at is that he's the type of person that can't leave things the way they are...just like the majority of us on this site. I can tell that there is something not right with him when he talks about the truck. He seems like he wishes he was the one that put the blower on the truck, not SVT.
...where's the fun in plotting your strategy, saving your dough, and getting to try the new parts out?

Message: thats the problem with "L's" everyone knows
they are supercharged. Mod out your R/T, buy
an M1, cold air intake, exhaust, supercharger,
you would still have spent less than you would
if you would have bought a lightning.
the great thing about these trucks is the fact
that you dont know whats under the hood, or
what they can run it could be supercharged
with NOS, or twin turbo'd, you never know until
they stomp on it.
half the fun of modding your own truck is
having a custom ride different from all the
production truck clones.

thats $ 2400 worth of crap i bought ( no labor ) and it barely did anything. still no 14s. so you can see my beef.
if I buy and M1 and supercharge that , then i`m at about 30K $ ( price of L ) and all I see here are poeple having problems with their trucks after supercharging.
1000 bux worth of goodies , you can get an L pretty far down into the 12s. Just check out Ls at dragtruk.com We would have to modify , stroke , blow or NO2 the motor. And how much would that be ? How good would the truck run ?
And how long before something needs fixin ?
Just add up all the $ you`ve spent on parts and you`ll be surprised.
Dont get me wrong , I love my R/T and I enjoy customizing it to my taste but at what cost ?
Sorry to bitch , maybe I just got a lemon.

I just think that you were expecting a lil too much.
But hey, spend 5000 on a twin turbos and you will never look back on a Lightning. It's hard to imagine you aren't in the 14s, even very high 14s with those mods...

have a friend who modded the piss out of his RT and it was looking good for a while then power started to drop on him or rather he finally noticed it and we clocked his 1/4 at 15.2 SLOW... The how and why is that he had managed to blow out the head gasket around number 3. the mods had done just enough to cover it that he hadn't noticed. Worked at Chrysler part time for a while had a lot of RT's in our area have the same problem at about 12000 - 16000 miles. I would do some of the basics man.
Compression check
Check for fouled plugs
Fuel filter
It just sounds like some part of the equation isnt adding up...
GOOD LUCK

Message: did i hear blown head gasket.???? let me tell you all about those. first, pull the cap off your radiator or the resivoir. stick yer nose in it and smell it. if it smells anything like exhaust or gas, you could be in trouble. dripping from the overflow bottle is another sign. best way though is to get a dye check. It sticks ino the neck of the radiator, draws air into the tube where it bubbles it through blue water, and if it turns green, then its blown. although without a blower, or no2, i doubt they are blown. definately check stupid stuff like clogged air filters, dirty injectors, ect. you'd e surprized what can make it run bad. also, if you did wires, make sure they are all in the right spots, all clicked down, plugs are gapped correctly... you get my drift.

Message: anonymous: I'd have someone double-check your truck. A RC R/T should be running 14.8-15.2 right off the showroom floor.
Another issue with our motors: They're setup for gobs of low-end torque. When you start tacking on items to help it breathe, you are sacrificing some of that low-end grunt for high-end zing. It makes the truck more fun to drive, but your 1/4 times will either not post any improvements or actually drop a bit. Only when you have the overall package put together for both horsepower and torque will you truly see 1/4 time improvements.
My truck FEELS a lot stronger when I drive it on a daily basis with my mods, but my 1/4 time is actually slower than when it was stock. However, I know that when I put on the next couple of mods, the pieces of the puzzle will click together and show me some dramatic gains.

OOPS.. Wrong forum.
:P
anons. 2.2 60' time can be improved on.. A 2.1 or 2.0 should be obtainable with stock suspension and correct technique.
Here's what I did (and approx cost) to get to a 14.3 @ 96 w/my 2000 RT RC.
Stock it did a pathetic 15.4 @ 88.5 mph (that was 204 hp @ 270 ft. lbs. at the rear wheels too).
In order:
Positive Performance Headers ($435)
K&N Gen II ($189- what I paid)
F&B Billet TB ($399)
Crower 1.7s ($425- what I paid)
Mopar Perf. Valve Covers (not a speed mod, used with 1.7s)
MSD6A ($159- no real increase)
Custom Exhaust w/Flowmaster 40 series ($350)
Level 10 Shift kit + install ($310)
M1 4bbl intake+ misc ($300)
Install kit/turtle + perf. gaskets = ($200)
So around $2800 total. Now I am putting 256 to the rear wheels... or $53 per horsepower increase (WOO HOO!)
Add to the mod list
Stripes (~ $1200 which includes my screw up/airfare/gas - long story, should have been 1/3rd of this)
Proglass Roll pan ($150)
Paint ($150)
Hotchkis Suspension ($1300 installed)
Bilstein shocks ($375 shipped)
Minimal stereo upgrades (~$275)
Alarm ($450)
Powerslot rotors ($180)
Raybestos pads ($102)
so I'm up to $4180 there... Add the two numbers together (I can't, it'll make me sick if I do) to see total price put out...

Message: Yes I see yer point SinCity. Maybe I only have a few pieces of the puzzle. I have 2.02 heads , M1 , cam , RRs , etc... ordered a while ago. The exhaust side is definitely ready for all that. Maybe its too open and thats whats killing me.
What got me the most was when I put on the MP PCM , I didnt notice any difference except that it shifts at 5200 now. Thats it. And it hurt my 1/4 mi. time or did nothing at all. I thought the PCM is good for like 20-25 HP.
I am not looking to "get a 14" My goal is to get about 13.3 - 13.6 with the heads , cam & M1 , etc. and then maybe a little spray or SC for a 12.
Definitely need some tires. Am I in the ballpark ?
But for now , Im really surprised at the performance per dollar spent. I found a place that has a chassis dyno. Gonna see what its got. What you guys think for RWHP ? 220 ?
Gonna have a compression check too and maybe see what the A/F ratio is. Anything else you guys wanna add , I appreciate it. Thank you.

Message: Remember every .1 of a second reaction time can make you a quite of a bit slower. Say you do a quarter at 100 mph.... 100x5280/3600 = 7.777 divide that by 10 (for every tenth of a second) and you will have lost .777 seconds of time you could've been accelerating. This is in a race based scenario.... go when the amber's go out, not when the greens come on, if you have the set-up you'll be that much farther ahead of the other guy..... but what do I know, I'm only 17. Oh yeah, something has to be wrong with ur truck, my 92 CC 4x4 will run 14.9's.... well, did b4 I blew the tranny, and it is completely stock.
