Subject: PULLED OUT A HUMMER IP: Logged
Message: HEHEHE
Yesterday I was driving and got to a area with a lot of mud and went in for some fun. Inside there was a crowd of people and a guy in a ford explorer trying to pull out a hummer that was burried in the mud. I offered to help and they straped me to it and i started pulling. Man did that thing weigh a lot. But after 3 or 4 tries i got him out. he offered me 50 bucks but i told him to keep it and save up for a dodge so you can come in here with out getting stuck (ya right my truck would have been considered a right off if i was that stuck. Then i left feeling pretty good about my truck. The 5.9 is an awsome engine. I hope the 4.7 is also that good because thats what i am going to buy next month. See ya.

Message: Hell yeah Marty. Where I am from that is what we do all of the time. I know what it feels like to pull someone out or out do them. I have a jeep that I am trying to sale and a dakota that is waitiing for me when I go home for easster. The only thing with this dakota is, is that it is a 2wd so I don't keep it in the mud. Four wheeling is great and I love to do it But I have pretty much tore my jeep up doing it so I think I am gonna layback on it for a while.

Message: You won't be able to do with the 4.7 what you did with the 5.9. The 4.7 may beat the 5.9 stock for stock down the freeway, but towing and pulling power in the mud and such, I'd go with the 5.9 any day of the week!

Message: LANDO981,
I know what you mean. I got tired of breaking things and constantly working on my 4x4. I figured I would lay back for a while so I bought a Dakota and my 4x4 is parked in the driveway for a while.

Message: Sorry guys - torque is only good if you can keep it on the ground. I've yet to see a 5.9 outperform a 4.7 in 'hard core' off-road.

Message: Nice work, Mar! It seems like pulling out a heavy vehicle in the mud like that hummer would put some serious stress if not really damage even a manual transmission. Is yours still the same after pulling out that hummer?

Message: Its still the same. Infact the 5.9 seems to just get better as it piles on the miles. Seriously. THe milage is better and it feels like the power is better. Im really happy with it. I can out drag a tahoe with a 350 9 times out of 10 and destroy a s-10. But the one thing i like is that when you put a heavy trailer on it the gas milage doesn't go to hell like it does with the smaller engines. The 4.7 maybe fancy and i will buy it next but i now know why dodge is reluctent to get rid of there 5.9. See ya.

Message: thinkagain,
hmmmmmm yes torque is only good if you can keep it on the ground. That goes for anything when you are wheeling if you don't have lockers. Personally the "Serious offroading" I do you need to crawl. That is when torque comes in. Granted I have never been in a 5.9, But looking at the torque graph I would rather have the 5.9 to wheel in. But I guess if you like to hit every thing at 3000 rpm the 4.7 would be better. Don't get me wrong. I love my 4.7 and it crawls even down hill(Lions back in first with out hitting the brakes til the bottom) But I like to crawl. I don't do much mudding all dry stuff sooo. This is my opionion and 2 cents.
