Subject: 2000 rpm drone IP: Logged
Message: I had headers installed on my R/T a while back and it gave me a little bit of a "drone" around 2000 rpm. No big deal. Kinda liked the sound. But I had a Hi-flow cat installed and now its really loud inside the cab. Kind of annoying.
I dont think there is any exhaust leaks anywhere. Just wondering if this is normal and why around 2000 rpm ? Is there anything I can do to get rid of that damn "drone" ?
Thanks.

Message: I have just a dumped flowmaster 40 series on my 00 R/T right now and it will kinda do the same thing. Alex is right try another muffler, spintech or mbrp is who I would go with though.
Here is a link to a site that has a ton of Daks with different exhaust that you can listen to.

Message: Oh , I forgot to say I also have a Gibson 3" cat-back exhaust. The big "can" style muffler that has a 3" hole straight through. Does that make it too loud you think , guys ?
Thanks.

Message: Gibsons are designed for exhaust flow velocity of specific engines (usually stock configurations).
Just installed similar setup on 5.9 quad. It has a very mild drone at 50 mph. Adding headers and hi flow cat increases noise that the muffler can't control at certain rpm. Have a brother in law that has same problem on his Ranger with a Gibson exhaust. He insulated the cab with sound deadner and that helped but did not eliminate the drone. He is in process of switching to a quieter Gibson muffler. But Gibsons says the quieter muffler will give up some of the hp gain.
